caulfield12 Posted July 15, 2011 Share Posted July 15, 2011 Deathy Hallows 2 is a very good movie. Unlike Transformers, you never look at your watch and wonder when the action's going to start again and why it feels like it's dragging. Personally, I liked Cuaron's Potter the best, but Yates and his crew have actually done a better job with these last two movies than the final book itself. As far as the 3D goes, it's just not worth it. I expected to be blown away by both Transformers and HP in 3D and still don't get it. The only movies I loved in 3D were Avatar (obviously) and How To Train Your Dragon. Nothing else comes close. Still think there will never be a movie battle scene to equal "Helm's Deep" in LOTR, but there's really a lot to like about this movie and I'm glad I had the patience to stick with the franchise all the way to the end. Everyone besides Abbie Cornish was ridiculously bad in that movie....I mean, errr, extended video game/music video. It couldn't decide if it was a male fantasy pseudo-softcore porn movie or an action adventure. It turned out to neither. It is admittedly because I can't avoid making comparisons between the book and the film. I completely understand the need to streamline a story and cut out a lot of peripheral detail for the sake of a compelling and tight film with such a shorty run time. But there were so many plot deviations that they seemed to do for no reason at all and that didn't enhance the storyline in any way and it was really irritating. I will go out and see it again soon (with the advantage of having not just sat through 21 hours of prior Potter installments like I did before yesterday's midnight showing), and hopefully I warm up to it a bit more. I will end by stating that I strongly disagree with caufield's earlier assertion that the film versions of Deathly Hallows were better than the book. Like all of the other Potter film installments. Agreed, the emotion isn't the same in the movie as it was in the book but i still really enjoyed the film version. My only real problem was three of the main deaths in the book and movie were kind of just glossed over in the movie with a quick cut scene. I felt the first quarter was a little rushed, but the last three fourths was spectacular. Oh, and Hermine in bellatrix's outfit ... oh baby! Doesn't even look like it will be close. Most were initially predicting around $150 million and now it has been readjusted to $175-185 million.
