QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 10:33 AM)

Do you mean where she gets the money or was it when they were playing the banjo?

Well, kind of all of it. For some reason, I got a feeling when the guy dropped off the money that Teardrop was the guy who posted bail. That didn't make much sense, but it just felt that way. Then when he said he was leaving the banjo and he knew who killed Jessup, I wasn't sure if that meant he was going to kill the person responsible and didn't expect to make it back, or if he was just going to leave it alone.

I also saw Inception a few weeks ago and forgot to mention this. Why is there so much debate about the movie? I don't think it was nearly as convoluted or up-in-the-air as people seem to think it was.

Yeah I thought it was pretty straightforward.

The way people talked about it, I was expecting there to be a bunch of loose ends and the end wouldn't really be concrete. The whole dreams within dreams thing made sense in the scheme of the movie (except I'm not sure why killing yourself in limbo brings you back, but killing yourself in a regular dream while sedated sends you to limbo). And the top thing at the end was pretty black and white. It was quite obvious that the top was about to stop, whereas it showed no signs of stopping like that in the three other parts that I recall them spinning the top in the dreams (Cotillard twice and Watanabe at the end). And if you needed to be bashed over the head, they even showed his kids' faces. Nothing to look deeper for unless you are just trying to add more to the movie when it simply isn't there. If you think like that last sentence, you are probably one of the people who was pissed off that Inception didn't win Best Picture.

I'm not sure if spoilers are necessary, but I did it anyway.

I agree with everything in this post. I enjoyed the movie, but the rules for the dreams were frankly ridiculous and I love that even though there were two sets of actors credited for the kids that people still argue that the kids were the same at the end as they were for the other sequences.

I won't hold the rules being ridiculous against the movie. The concept of the movie requires it to be absurd, so at least they followed their own rules. It just seemed odd that dying in one dream while under sedation would result in going to limbo, but dying in limbo brings you back.

Obviously the entire movie required significant suspension of disbelief (as do most sci-fi movies) so the rules being ridiculous wasn't a huge issue, but it is absurd that if you die in the dream but you aren't sedated you wake up, if you die in the dream and are sedated you go to limbo, and then if you die in limbo while you are sedated or in a coma or whatever you wake up? It was an entertaining action movie with some cool visuals and I give credit to Nolan for at least not creating formulaic movies but I just don't think it was a masterpiece like a lot of people did.

I think the big man bailed him out before he could do much talking and then they killed him. Somebody, can't remember who, said that Jessup wasn't up for doing more time. Not sure if Teardrop was going to look for revenge, but I think that's kind of the cycle of violence in that lifestyle, so I guess I assumed he was. I did not expect a happy ending by any means, but I did like that the family had some hope going forward.

I totally agree about it not being a masterpiece. I understand the part about waking up if you die in a dream. It also makes some sense to go to limbo if you die in a dream because you can't wake up out of a sedative. The part that baffles me, though, is waking up from limbo by dying. How does that take you out of the sedative when it didn't in the regular dream? That's about the only real question I had with the movie, but I'm fine with it.

Yes, it makes the most sense that Thump bailed him out, and it was Teardrop who said Jessup wasn't up for the time. I think I was just looking for something else when the bail bondsman brought the money, so I kind of hoped for a twist that Teardrop bailed him out. I recall Teardrop saying that he didn't want to know who killed Jessup and to not tell him if Ree found out because he'd end up dead himself. So I figured when Teardrop found out for himself that he was just going to let it be. The part with leaving the banjo there is what really got me. I think it was either two things: he was going to take revenge resulting in getting himself killed or he was going to come back regularly to play the banjo/visit with the family.

I think we actually agree on this, I was just pointing out how inconsistent it was.

Adjustment Bureau at 70% after 142 reviews on RT. I'll probably see it.

I'm actually seeing that tonight. Wife and I are dying to hit the theater and it was either 'Adjustment Bureau' or 'Take Me Home Tonight'. I have no interest in the latter, though my wife is surprisingly interested.

Might go with the wife tomorrow night to check it out. Dinner in Bridgeport tonight.

Rango was a good kids flick. There was a Hunter S Thompson appearance which was very quick and very funny(and obviously voiced by Depp). There were more than a few adult references that i laughed at.

a little bit of mild language and a few deaths surprised me. You dont normally see cartoons where characters tell each other to go to hell
