So I've been catching up on the classic gangster movies. Any recommendations for ones I should definitely see?

Casino

Goodfellas

Donnie Brasco

Godfather 1&2

Scarface

Heat

Carlito's Way

The Untouchables

Reservoir Dogs

White Heat

Once Upon a Time in America

You should have a pretty solid DeNiro fix by the end.

I've seen all of those. I was actually referring to older "classic" gangster movies, such as White Heat, Little Caesar, Angels With Dirty Faces, The Public Enemy, etc.

Of the ones you listed, the only one I didn't really like was Once Upon a Time in America. It was pretty boring to me and then way too long due to that. I also think Scarface is pretty overrated.

The Lincoln Lawyer was very good. Different take on courtroom drama. Hope it does well enough where they do another movie off the series of books.

I really enjoyed the book and have heard good things about the movie. Hope to go see it sometime but will probably have to wait to rent.

It's not strictly a gangster film, but there is a lot of the same grit and mannerisms and great vocal patter in

Sweet Smell of Success. 1957, Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis, corrupt newsmen, dirty cops, drug plant setups, and forbidden romance - it has a bit of everything. As much as you are liking the classic gangster films right now, I bet you will really dig this one if you give it a shot.

I added it. Netflix says I'll like it a lot.

Transmorphers: Fall of Man, from the same team that brought you Titanic II...

Quite possibly the worst spoof movie of all-time.

The biggest problem I had was the casting of writer Shane Van Dyke in the lead hero. If he hadn't written the script, I doubt he'd have even had an audition.

My options are whatever is being shown at the Icon on Roosevelt.

I'm thinking get baked and watch your highness.

If you're getting baked I'd suggest either Hanna or Source Code which are both playing there.

Hanna...pretty good, a little bit like one of the Bourne or Bond movies, but not very much action, great film-making, cinematography and performances but not really a movie I'd ever want to watch again

Insidious...very good horror movie, ending is so-so but I definitely enjoyed it more than most in that genre

Scream 4....I actually wasn't as annoyed as some with the self-referential "meta" comments, but with the 3 stars aging, it did feel a little bit....stale, is the word...and the ending, while a pretty big surprise, was also not one of the best...more of a wait for the DVD movie

I wanted action over the weekend and finally saw Battle of LA. I don't care if it makes me an idiot, but I was thoroughly entertained throughout the entire movie. Very enjoyable flick and was worth seeing in the theatre because of the effects/sounds of the battle scenes.

By and large, if I see a movie in the theatre now, it has to be a movie that is enhancded by the fantastic sound systems cause otherwise I'd just as well watch a movie from home on my big screen for a buck, haha.

So 127 hours wasn't good.

No it really wasn't. I actually thought it was ok until the end when it just sort of...ended. That sounds strange since we know how it ends, but it just seemed abrupt.

I didn't think it was bad, but I didn't like the fact that I knew what was going to happen, that he got out, and how he got out. So the whole movie I was just saying "Alright, get to the scene!"

I think I would have liked it better if I didn't know how it would play out.
