Since there has been big lebowski talk going on... here is a question for some of you. What is your favorite coen brothers film outside of the big lebowski?

I ask because as a whole i really enjoy them... but there are still some bona fide duds in their filmography, in my opinion. If you have just seen one or two others don't bother answering.

No Country For Old Men, nuff said.

I keep thinking that he asked what everyone's least favorite Coen brothers movie is when I see people responding to qwerty's question (I think because he mentioned that they have some stinkers in the same post). Each one I see, I'm thinking "this person's crazy" because I love the movie they mentioned.

I'll add that one. Another one I really enjoyed recent was Trollhunter, and the commom theme between a lot of these movies is a small budget. So how about that? Movies that did a lot with very little.

Since you and qwerty are on the obscure movies kick...

Chinese movies:

Let the Bullets Fly (very good, Chow Yun Fat)

Love in Space

Hot Summer Days

IP Man 1 and 2

Shaolin

Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame (very good)

Du LaLa Du

The Grandmasters (coming out Dec. 1, Tony Leung and Zhang Ziyi)

The Flowers of War (about Nanjing Massacre, with Christian Bale as star, famous director Zhang Yimou)

The Sorcerer and the White Snake (Jet Li)

If You Are the One Part I&II (Shu Qi/Ge You)

Assembly (2007) one of the best war movies of all-time

Thai Movies

BTS Love Story

Hello, Stranger

By the way, what's the story on Paranormal Activity III? A lot of critics have given favorable reviews...Ebert of course, not so much.

Well i always suggest a japanese film called ''after life''.... clearly not the after.life with liam neeson.

Plot:

After death, people have just one week to choose only a memory to keep for eternity.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0165078/

Trailer:

http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi1605697817/

===================================

Das experiment... 2001 you very well may have seen this.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0250258/

Plot: The movie is based on the infamous "Stanford Prison Experiment" conducted in 1971. A makeshift prison is set up in a research lab, complete with cells, bars and surveillance cameras. For two weeks 20 male participants are hired to play prisoners and guards. The 'prisoners' are locked up and have to follow seemingly mild rules, and the 'guards' are told simply to retain order without using physical violence. Everybody is free to quit at any time, thereby forfeiting payment. In the beginning the mood between both groups is insecure and rather emphatic. But soon quarrels arise and the wardens employ ever more drastic sanctions to confirm their authority.

Based off of a true story. This was remade with adrien brody recently.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0250258/

===========================================

The diving bell and the butterfly.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0401383/

Plot:

The true story of Elle editor Jean-Dominique Bauby who suffers a stroke and has to live with an almost totally paralyzed body; only his left eye isn't paralyzed.

Think about what you just read.

I will continue adding to this during the night... these are just some i like... and think others would enjoy.

have heard of the Diving Bell and the Butterfly but hadn't seen it...it either won the Academy Award or at least was put up for one of the main nominations (Actor/Director/Screenplay/Best Movie)

also am familiar with those experiments (from psychology classes) but haven't seen

i guess "after life" is not connected in any way with "hereafter" the eastwood/damon picture...

I'll add those. I remember reading about that experiment in a Sociology class in college.

So i just read that they are going to attempt to bring the Dark Tower to the big screen still, except with a reworked ending. Thats just great. I love when you take an amazing set of books like that, and change the ending.

Got Adjustment Bureau out of Redbox over the weekend. I can't remember who recently praised it, but thanks! It was a great show.

You're welcome. I absolutley loved it.

Anywho, The Trip was fun. I didn't love it though. It had its funny moments and I loved all the impressions, but as someone said, the ending was abrupt and in general, it was kind of depressing.

Transformers 3 was awesome. I don't give a s*** what you say or how much you hate it, those movies are entertaining as all hell.

I've got Thor and X-Men: First Class coming tomorrow.

Now, to the important stuff: HAS NO ONE ELSE SEEN PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3??????

You're in for a treat with those two.

I haven't seen any of the Paranormal Activity movies and wasn't even interested in them, but this new one looks a lot better than the others did.

It isn't. Pretty much nothing from the trailer is in the movie. And I'm not exaggerating. The 3rd was an utter disappointment. Still scary as s*** with a lot of jumpy terrifying moments, but it didn't explain a whole lot in regards to the first 2.

No, I was being quite literal. Almost NOTHING you see in the trailer is in the actual film. I was surprised too.

I heard it was the same bs as the other two as well...a shame, because this one was being hyped up as being "really" scary, and much better than the prior two.

Pa3 was good, not great. Pa2 is still one of the best horror movies ever. 3 was certainly not near that level, but still good enough to watch.

What separates PA2 from PA1? I thought they were basically the same movie, with just slightly different plots.

Don't get me wrong, I find them to be fine for a renter on a fall evening or something, but one of the best horror movies ever?

Oddly enough, I still think of The Others as one of my favorite horror movies of all time.

I liked the first 2 PA's, but can't spend $8 on an hour and 20 min movie. Heard it was really good. Also heard the directors shot two different movies and chose to release this one. Wonder if blu ray will have other version.

Loved Hanna.

If by same bs you're referring to the home video stuff, then yes, it's mostly the same. But don't get me wrong, it's still an incredibly scary movie, it's more so that the plot was kind of supposed to explain some things and it doesn't at all. I feel as though PA3 had more jump out of your seat and scream moments, and the last 20 minutes or so was pretty terrifying, but overall it failed to deliver.

Wow, I thought the original first one (without the alternative endings) was much better than the 2nd.

I'm 1/4th of the way through the 3rd and getting so bored already...I know, be patient!

Scariest of all-time? Wow...so many, from past or more recent history.

I really want to see "Time In". Love the idea.

lol. When you reverse it, it looks like it should be a Ben Stiller movie about the game of freeze tag
