prochisox
there seems to be interest in a rafael soriano/@OzzieGuillen pairing. but word thus far is, #chisox have little if any $ left #chisox pen not bad w/ sale, thornton, santos, crain, pena. but soriano would be fine jenks replacement -- if they find $ http://twitter.com/#!/SI_JonHeyman interesting... iamshack
Soriano is interested in any team worth a damn right now because the market for relievers has dried up for the most part. His best shot is LAA or NYY, two teams that actually have some $ left to spend.
Vote4Pedro
i like it but dont see how we could afford it unless it is a 1 yr deal with performance incentives
GreatScott82
I just got kinda gidee! I really hope we can get this guy. Thank you Jerry for opening up your wallet
southsider2k5
That would be the biggest positive that this team could add on the FA market.
beck72
I could see if Soriano signs for less up front cash, and more in years 2 and 3. Teahen could be sent packing, ala Linebrink. That might save $1.5-2 mill.

chw42
Boras is playing games with Kenny again. I heavily doubt that Soriano would take a cheaper deal just because of Ozzie. Besides, is there even a history between the two? Edited January 2, 2011 by chw42
iamshack
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 1, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) Boras is playing games with Kenny again. I heavily doubt that Soriano would take a cheaper deal just because of Ozzie. Besides, is there even a history between the two? He's trying to drum up competition for his services in any way possible.
opwhitesoxfan
Wow what a great rumor. That would be the final piece to the playoff puzzle. What a complete staff we would have. Kenny go for it.
Springfield Soxfan
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 1, 2011 -> 08:38 PM) Boras is playing games with Kenny again. I heavily doubt that Soriano would take a cheaper deal just because of Ozzie. Besides, is there even a history between the two? Totally agreed, there is no way this can be true other than someone leaking rumors about teams who might need closers to drum up interest. I cannot see how this could be without some other shedding of salary.
southsider2k5
The only way this could happen is on a one year deal.
Dick Allen
I suppose stranger things have happened, but I would think the Sox would have to dump a starter for this to happen. Trade someone like Jackson for prospects or lower paid guys, bring back Garcia cheap, and sign Soriano. It may work, but its Boras I believe which makes this report probably BS. knightni
I doubt that Garcia would be cheap. If anything, they'd move Sale to the rotation if they deal a SP.
Dick Allen
QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 1, 2011 -> 09:11 PM) I doubt that Garcia would be cheap. If anything, they'd move Sale to the rotation if they deal a SP. That wouldn't work. Garcia probably wouldn't work, but losing 200 innings for the gigantic question that would be Chris Sale in the starting rotation isn't prudent, and certainly isn't "all in". knightni
Trading Edwin Jackson is even farther away from "all-in."
iamshack
I'm pretty convinced this is just a ploy to get the Yankees to cough up more money.

Trade someone like Jackson for prospects or lower paid guys, bring back Garcia cheap, and sign Soriano. It may work, but its Boras I believe which makes this report probably BS. The Sox would be a way better team in a scenario where they get a good OF prospect for Jackson, sign Soriano to Jackson's salary, and bring Garcia back for a reasonable amount. bschmaranz
Definitely think this is something Soriano's people came up with to scare the big guns of the AL to pony up the dough. This White Sox team is WAY too scary if we were to sign a guy like this to close.
witesoxfan
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 1, 2011 -> 10:34 PM) The Sox would be a way better team in a scenario where they get a good OF prospect for Jackson, sign Soriano to Jackson's salary, and bring Garcia back for a reasonable amount. I think Garcia is going to cost about $5 mill, and he still brings in considerable durability issues. That'd be about $13 million, and really, is the upgrade in the bullpen going to be worth the additional $5 mill plus the downgrade in the rotation? justBLAZE
My guess - Heyman trying to do Ozzie (Oney) a favor.
