Buehrle>Wood
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/01/whit...-are-close.html Figured a new acquisition deserved it's own thread. Would be a great move for us fans of Sale starting the season in the rotation. Heyman said earlier he was down to 3 AL teams.

ChiliIrishHammock24
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 06:37 PM) Lame. We actually had both of you beat in the White Sox offseason thread.

Please god not a multi-year deal on a medicore reliever. What's so f***ing hard about producing one or two from within? The Braves and Padres sure don't have a problem with this. ChiliIrishHammock24
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 06:47 PM) Every other time he's hit FA, he's wound up on 1 year deals worth less than $1.5 million And relievers are also signing very lucrative 3yr deals this offseason. If he had 2 other options on the table, I'd find it hard to believe he signs for anything less than $2M a year, and maybe the 2nd yr offer from the Sox won him over. Who knows. All I know is that I nailed the Jesse Crain deal right on the head with 3 yrs/$13M. So we'll see!
TheChrisSamsa
One year, $1.3 million and I'd be happy and I don't think it would close any doors on other moves.

Rowand44
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 05:56 PM) Then why waste coin on Ohman? If it's a 1 year deal then he'd be at least a decent fit. I agree with you though that I want nothing to do with a multi year deal. Having that 3rd lefty can enable a few different things to happen with Sale, so it definitely makes some sense. Heads22
If the price is right - I like what the Sox are doing.
chw42
I wouldn't give Ohman more than one year. 3.98 FIP last year, 3.16 against lefties. I think this might mean Sale will start the season in the rotation.
Springfield Soxfan
This would not bring the wow factor, but it is much more realistic than Soriano.
chw42
QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 06:44 PM) This would not bring the wow factor, but it is much more realistic than Soriano. We don't need Soriano, he's a huge luxury. I'd rather spend whatever we have left on a lesser lefty reliever like Ohman, a back-end starter, or Andruw Jones. Lillian
He has been dominant vs. LH hitters in 5 of the last 6 seasons. He should be a big improvement over Williams as the LOOGY.
Rowand44
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 06:29 PM) If we want to really maximize the guys worth, it is what we need to do. This whole "all in" thing we keep on hearing means that they're not going to let a pitcher who proved he already has a ton of value to the major league team start the year in the minors. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 06:37 PM) I think this might mean Sale will start the season in the rotation. Could allow for that and could also mean that he can move right into the closers role when Peavy is ready(assuming someone hasn't already stepped up and taken over). Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 05:56 PM) Then why waste coin on Ohman? What would you rather spend our money on other than the bullpen? What other need do we have at the major league level that deserves more attention right now? You keep saying don't sign relievers to multi-year deals, but how else do you expect us to improve the bullpen in 2011 if we don't have any options available in our minor league system? I don't think we can afford to trade what little minor league talent we have for a reliever. I don't see another choice but to overpay in free agency, especially since we're all in 2011. macsandz
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 06:50 PM) I know you can no long post without using some extreme hyperbole, but give it a f***ing rest. The White Sox will have a payroll somewhere around the 120 million mark once the 2011 season starts. If they are moderately successful, it should stay around that point for the next 3-5 years. Will a two year deal worth 4-6 million dollars for Will Ohman really prevent the Sox from anything? Really? I'm not saying it will be a great signing if it happens, but it fills one of the final needs for this team( a solid LOOGY) and shouldn't hinder the Sox from making other moves. Relax. +1 THANK YOU.
