bschmaranz
Both are pretty low risk. Manny obviously more than Damon. I just wonder who winds up in the field?

Didn't Manny wait like 20 games to record his first RBI as a Sox? And this is a great signing? He stunk in a Sox uniform. And don't make excuses for Manny anybody, please? Manny, the ass that he's been, doesn't need anybody making excuses for him. He stunk as a Sox.

Balta1701
So, they lose Crawford and Pena, and bring in Damon and Manroid for $7 million. I guess it isn't bad. They still have a 1b hole, they have no idea what they'll get from Manroid honesty, and their bullpen is still weakened, but with that starting rotation they can hang. southsider2k5
File under interesting.... bradfo FWIW: Manny Ramirez hit just one HR on a fastball (92 mph vs. #Reds Jordan Smith in June) last season.

I expect something similar to Jack Cust in his numbers, perhaps something like .230/.350/.450. That's who's there right now...but that's a bad version of last year's Carlos Pena if everything goes correctly. I'm sorta surprised they didn't attempt to go after LaRoche. I think your numbers are optimistic. They total an .800 OPS, and he's only topped .800 in 1 season; 2005 with Oakland, and he only got 434 PA's there. He's never finished a 600 PA season, his career OPS is .757, and he hasn't topped 140 PA's since 2007. I think Jhonny Damon will see some time at 1b, honestly. IF they move Damon there for part of the year, they can ease Desmond Jennings in for 1/2 a season.

SOB I agree with DA. If the Rays stay in the Race, and Manroid is playing everyday, I think that'll counteract it some, but if they fall back of Boston early, I think he'll lose interest quick. Especially with a half dozen fans in the audience every other game.
beautox
I personally feel that the Rays and Jays will be sitting atop the east when the season ends. I'm not confident in Boston's rotation as both the rays and jays have supeior pitching and depth. I seriously feel unless cashman Hal burns through the yankee's farm system for some legit pitching, it won't matter who they hand the games over to in the 7-9th. If that's the case, you might as well put the Orioles in the mix. I mean, I like what AA has done with that team, but they're just not on the same level as Boston or NY. You did remember that they traded Marcum to Milwaukee when you made this post, right? The Jays don't stand a chance in that division, and I don't care if you aren't confident in Boston's rotation (Lester is still amazing and they should be able to get a 4.50 ERA from the combination of Beckett, Buccholz, Lackey, and Matsuzaka) because their offense could score 900 runs even if there is another down offensive year. I think that the Red Sox could quite legitimately have an All-Star at every position except C and CF, assuming Lowrie is their starting SS and Scutaro hops around the infield. Wellllll, if Hill and Lind were to revert back to their '09 levels, Bautista has every bit the season in '11 that he had in '10, Romero and Morrow, two extremely talented pitchers, make that next leap, along with a guy like Drabek challenging for the AL ROY, they could definitely make some noise. But that's a whole lot of ifs right there. I'm with you. Boston is clearly the class of the AL at the moment. elrockinMT
I think that as long as the Rays play in Tampa Bay they will never have the money to compete for the top FA's or even keep their own best players. If any team needs to move it is TB

witesoxfan
Along with that, the negative stigma surrounding gambling and baseball as well as Las Vegas having about a gazillion other tourist destinations, I don't think MLB in Las Vegas stands a chance. The AAA team will suffice.
