RockRaines
That lack of institutional control is apparently a bad phrase because it shows a repeat offense and places blame on the university's compliance dept. The punishment does seem harsh though.
HuskyCaucasian
Justice Department looking into lack of football playoff The Justice Department has sent a pointed letter to the NCAA asking why there isn't a playoff system for college football, saying "serious questions" continue to be raised about whether the current Bowl Championship Series complies with federal antitrust laws. Critics have urged the department to launch an antitrust investigation into the BCS, saying that it unfairly gives some schools preferential access to the national championship game and top-tier bowls. In a letter this week, the Justice Department's antitrust chief, Christine Varney, asked NCAA president Mark Emmert why college football doesn't use a playoff system to determine its national champion, while other NCAA sports do; what steps the NCAA has taken to create one, and whether Emmert thinks there are aspects of the BCS system that don't serve the interest of fans, schools and players. "Your views would be relevant in helping us to determine the best course of action with regard to the BCS," she wrote. Varney noted that the attorney general of Utah, Mark Shurtleff, has announced that he plans to file an antitrust lawsuit against the BCS, and that 21 professors recently sent the department a letter asking for an antitrust investigation. Soxbadger
Its going to be a hard case against the BCS, unless they can find a smoking gun where they altered the computer results. Even the NCAA tournament does the following: saying that it unfairly gives some schools preferential access to the NCAA tournament Put it this way, if UNC is 20-10 and Boise State is 20-10, and there is 1 spot left, which team gets the spot? zenryan
link A University of Miami football player has been arrested for allegedly raping a female student on campus, Coral Gables Police said Wednesday. Jeffrey Brown, 19, has been charged with sexual battery. Brown, a redshirt freshman defensive tackle from Illinois, allegedly attacked the unnamed victim while she was sleeping, authorities said. "The University of Miami has become aware of the serious charges made against a student athlete, and he has been suspended indefinitely from the football program," UM said in a released statement. After a night of drinking on April 30, the victim, who was at her girlfriend's dorm, allegedly knocked on Brown's dorm room across the hall to use his bathroom, an arrest report stated. Police said Brown and the woman were friends. The woman passed out on Brown's bathroom floor after throwing up and the 6'3, 295 pound athlete escorted the woman back to her friend's house. He returned around 4 a.m. to check on the victim, police said. "As the victim was sleeping, [brown] pulled off the victim's blanket and got on top of her," the arredste report stated. "He then removed the victim's underwear." The woman told Brown to stop, but he continued and had sex with her against her will, she told police. When approached by police, Brown denied the allegations, but when presented with evidence, he changed his story and admitted to having sex with the woman, police said. Brown also allegedly sent several text messages to his roommate while being interviewed by police. He asked the unnamed roommate to "dispose of his underwear," the report stated. Police later retrieved Brown's underwear and took them into evidence. What a stupid POS. Maybe he wasnt going to be some NFL prospect but it is amazing that someone could throw away the chance to get a college degree and ruin the rest of their life by doing something like this. Just curious, I haven't kept up on the case lately.

Wow, Im still shocked by this. How stupid do you have to be, I mean, Tressel you were the class of the Big Ten by far. Now, you're going to be tainted and be out of a job, and will only give UM fans something to talk about besides their own major character problems. Heck, he'll spend a max of three years at some program that needs rebuilding, then be back at a major program in no time. He could even be at Michigan or Notre Dame in a few years. Or maybe even USC. zenryan
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ May 11, 2011 -> 08:22 PM) Joe Pa is like 100. 60 really isn't that old. Paterno hasnt coached a game in years. Nothing more than a figure head for the football program. We wont be seeing any top level programs hiring coaches in their late 50s/early 60s anymore. The trend is young, energetic coaches to build the program around. Maybe Tressel finds a job in the MAC but none of the top jobs will be going after a coach who has been shady at his previous two jobs.

IlliniKrush
Well yes and no, there wasn't really any official word on if/when he was going to retire, or if he desired to stay on as AD, or even in some other role.
