Jordan4life_2007
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 11:33 AM) Might as well give you a few more possibles. Madison Bumgartner, Tommy Hanson. I'm a big fan of both of those guys, especially Hanson. I'd still go with Gallardo.

Personally, I think Bumgarner is a tick below the others. I'd put Latos ahead of him as well. I'm with you on Gallardo as well. Moving from the "ace" position down to #2, Gallardo is going to be a fantasy monster.

sircaffey
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 06:32 PM) What's the difference? Gallardo strikes me as someone who puts undue pressure on himself. Now he doesn't have to be "the guy." Plus, for fantasy purposes, he will no longer be going up against the other team's ace.

Has anyone actually run the numbers to see how often a #1 starter goes against a #1 starter or against a #5 starter?
ScottyDo
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 01:21 PM) Has anyone actually run the numbers to see how often a #1 starter goes against a #1 starter or against a #5 starter? I mean, it's bound to happen happen more often for the #1 starter since the first couple of starts of the season, the teams tend to be on similar schedules. Plus, you've got the post-ASB reset, which should follow the same concept, and you've got the very rare rotational shuffle in the second half when you try to get a certain pitcher vs. a certain team (I think we did that to get Danksy-poo against the Twinkies at some point last year). That said, I bet the difference between the 1 spot and the others isn't all that great. Edited January 29, 2011 by ScottyDo

I can buy the mental thing but I'm almost positive that teams "aces" don't face each other as much as people believe. First game of the season for sure than it's all a mess.
