balfanman
Phil Rogers is suggesting that Alexie Ramirez leadoff and have Juan Pierre bat ninth. I don't know, this might not be a bad idea, at least Alexie would get more AB's than Juan that way.

witesoxfan
Alexei batting leadoff would be a disaster. He should not be hitting in front of Konerko and Dunn, he should be hitting behind them.

Rooftop Shots
If the name Phil Rogers is attached, then the baseball advice that is given by him is about as useful as digging out the recent snowmageddon with your kids sandbox shovel. Alexie is "free-swinger" Until he learns more plate discipline, there is no way that he should bat leadoff. You want someone to leadoff and get on base "Any" way as possible. WALKS included. Alexei......patient at the plate?....NOT! Walk a lot?? NOT! A possible league leader in base stealing to get in scoring position for the heart of the lineup....NOT YET! Phil Rogers...........Stick with giving advice to your kids on which dice to roll when they are playing Yahtzee, and stay away from baseball. PLEASE!!!! lostfan
Alexei is, what, 28? He's never going to learn plate discipline.
Leonard Washington
Sometimes I think he says stupid things on purpose just so people like us will talk about him....like a kid who doesn't care if he gets good attention or bad attention. Alexei leading off makes no sense. His on base skills are his biggest weakness.
Balta1701
If you could magically combine the increased patience of the 2009 Alexei with the .290 batting average of the 2008 Alexei Ramirez it wouldn't be the worst option in the world, because he'd wind up with a .340-ish OBP and that's not awful at leadoff (we've survived with worse, 2008 OC). That said, the only reason why you'd put Alexei there is if everyone else in your lineup was going to hit 35 HR.
Steve9347
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 2, 2011 -> 09:55 PM) There is a reason Phil Rogers is regarded as a piece of suck. No doubt. Why is this asshole paid to write garbage. Say what you will about Pierre, but at least he sees a lot of pitches.
BigSqwert
I don't mind the Pierre batting 9th part of the suggestion.
KipWellsFan
Juan Pierre is still our best option at leadoff. Lets just hope he gets on base at a slightly better clip this year.
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm
QUOTE (balfanman @ Feb 2, 2011 -> 09:46 PM) Phil Rogers is suggesting that Alexie Ramirez leadoff and have Juan Pierre bat ninth. I don't know, this might not be a bad idea, at least Alexie would get more AB's than Juan that way. It should be noted that Phil Rogers' baseball genius was on display during the very same segment in which Al Leiter referenced Alexei's defense as his biggest need/area for improvement, citing 20+ errors in 2010. Apparently neither of these guys watches Sox games.

joeynach
Pierre is a fine leadoff hitter if ozzie uses him correctly. He has shown us the ability to get on base at a decent enough clip and steal some bases to offset his lack of power or lack of high batting average. If he does all that he will be a fine leadoff hitter for us in 2011. Its when the 8th place hitter gets a leadoff single/double, then ozzie bunts with the 9th hitter to move the runner over for a big RBI hit/sacfly opportunity for Pierre with 1 out that drives me crazy. Keep away from that insanity and Pierre is fine leadoff hitter by me. Edited February 5, 2011 by joeynach

Exactly what I was going to say. Pierre would be a good nine hitter, but not on the White Sox.
Quincystandback
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 02:04 AM) I like Pierre 9 Alex Rios 1 Rios doesn't get on base that much for a lead-off spot. He isn't taking a ton of walks either. Pierre 1 is fine with me. Maybe move Rios to the 3 slot.
Leonard Washington
Rios' mediocre OBP might be his biggest weakness. Batting him leadoff would be like putting Paulie in CF. It exploits the player's biggest weakness.
Jerksticks
I like the idea of giving our threats (guys who can change the game on any swing) the most AB's. I think JP is so perfect for the 9 hole as he gets to set the table all but in the 1st. I'll never see it but I'd like to. Has a team ever batted all their mashers 1-2-3-4? What are the stats on such a thing?

Alexei's OBP in 2009 was .333, Rios in 2008 was .337 and 2010 was .334.
sircaffey
I'd love for Rios to bat leadoff with Pierre 9. I'll never be in favor of giving the most PA to one of the team's least productive hitters.
