iamshack
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 07:07 PM) I think it tastes good Doesn't have anything bad for you in it, but I also wouldn't go in expecting any performance benefits. You'll be hydrated a little better but it is not an electrolyte drink -- as a calorie free beverage it should be an excellent way to feel like you're getting something tastier than water without the "guilt" of drinking a sugary beverage. It makes sense as a non-activity compliment to the Gatorade line if one was to live the company's ideal of consuming their products in every applicable setting. There are small amounts of vitamins, but the forms of those are not stated and the amounts aren't particularly high anyways. Basically, if this drink is making or breaking your daily vitamin intake there is a problem This is akin to drinking a diet, non-caffeinated soda without the carbonation that can turn some people off. So? Drink as your heart desires and enjoy the yumminess. I've been drinking it basically just as an every day beverage. I seem to have difficulty with staying hydrated enough when I am home (I drink lots of water at work for some reason...maybe I should just pony up and get a water cooler . I don't drink soda or really much juice even, but don't really care for the taste of my tap water. Glad to hear it isn't going to kill me (at least to your knowledge). I hear you, I have to get pretty desperate to rally around some tap water. I try to have a few no-cal beverage choices around so that I will actually get enough fluids in me. Propel is one I like for the taste and mouth-feel that is waterish.

Just googled it...looks very interesting...so you dissolve those things in water? Looks like they run about 50 cents for each tablet...not too bad I suppose. I'll definitely check them out. StrangeSox
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 07:19 PM) Personal opinion: Gatorade is only to be drank during physical activity or when hungover. Because it's miraculous in both situations. ProTip: Drink it before passing out

Its probably better to drink something with sugar in it that something that miraculously has zero calories, at least thats what I was told. Diet drinks have been shown to have cancer causing agents in them, and you have to wonder where that flavor comes from while not adding any calories. I also love G2, but sparingly, there are better alternatives.

I also seem to remember that you need to consume a ridiculous amount of artificial sweeteners to be at risk for cancer. Like 1/2 pound a day or something. StrangeSox, however did they test for something like that if it only affects you over a long period of time?
iamshack
So had a little workout accident this morning using the resistance bands anchored into the door. Was doing some quasi pull-ups when the door popped open and the anchor came flying back at me at about 200 mph. Caught me straight in the forehead! Cut me open and I'm a bit swollen in the forehead and around the nose, but I am just happy it didn't catch me in the eye, because I could have lost an eye, honestly. I did clean up and the blood and go back and finish the workout though (I was only on the 2nd of 24 exercises when it happened)!

StrangeSox, however did they test for something like that if it only affects you over a long period of time? The NIH has a little fact-sheet about artificial sweeteners. The original findings were based on increased cancer in lab animals, and IIRC these lab animals were given huge dosages, far more than any person would reasonably consume (when taking into account body weight etc.). There's never been any definitive link between them and cancers in humans.

Jake
Hey guys, I had written up a nice long response about artificial sweeteners right as Comcast decided I didn't need internet anymore. As I switch to CenturyLink and spend more than usual amounts of time at Starbucks (like right now) I'm going to write a series of posts about sweeteners for my blog. I'll copy paste them here. Until then, drink away
Leonard Zelig
Can anybody explain the difference between the Dumbbell Squat and the Dumbbell Deadlift to me? From what I read, the squat targets the quads and the deadlift targets the glutes, but they seem like very similar moves.
Reddy
in the squat you're just going straight down, bending only at the knees, so your thighs are parallel to the floor, then straight back up, weights never touch the floor. in the dead lift, you're holding the weights so that your palms are facing you, and the weights start on and return to the floor. also when you come up, squeeze your lats at the top. this way you target your glutes and lats at the same time and make sure your back is staying straight. in this one, your thighs go further than parallel to the floor. that help at all? Yeah the deadlift should be more of a bend at the waist than the squat, more lower back and glutes.
