In other words, you don't think Brent Morel will be a starter any time in the next 3 years. (Like it or not, that's what that trade would entail.)

Agreed. There's no way Young comes here to be a part-time player. He would get 600 at-bats. Easy. And another White Sox prospect would bite the dust.

No, Morel wouldn't be the starter if you got Michael Young. That wouldn't make any sense. I'm guessing Brent would become trade bait soon enough, that I would be fine with that.

This rumor is already making its way around, it seems. I walked into my house and the first thing my roommate says to me is that he heard the Sox traded for Michael Young. Unless it happened in the 15 minutes it took me to get home from work, I knew it had to be false, but checked online anyway. He said he was told that it was Young + cash for Teahen + Viciedo + a minor league pitcher.

If the team is willing to pay it, I'd take it without a second thought.

Even if I try to ignore the money, we'd be committing to a 34 year old with obviously declining numbers, already weak defense, and huge splits at the ballpark in Arlington, for 3 years to be the starting 3b through age 36.

That's not winning the future.

Viciedo? You think I was bad after the Hudson trade? My wrath would be godlike if that abomination were to occur.

Even in his decline, Michael Young's numbers will blow away Brent Morel in 2011.

That's winning now.

Michael Young won't look nearly as bad once he gets off of that basketball court that is the Rangers infield during the summer months.

Really? There's an established correlation between playing in Texas and worse defense?

How good would Elvis Andrus be if you took him out of Texas?

There is a big difference in the timing of playing SS and 3B. And yes, Andrus would be better anywhere else that wasn't astroturf, because the balls stay in the infield longer.

I gotta say, i don't buy this being a significant effect at all. If you can supply me home/away splits that somehow show guys in Texas get much better on D on the road, I'll listen, but I don't buy this at all.

You don't buy that it is harder to play IF on a faster playing surface than a slower one? I'd call that common sense.

Yes, because the KW formula of jettisoning away young talent in order to win now has proven to be very successful of late.

I still think the Griffey trade was the worst ever. He had nothing left. Swisher was at least defensible at the time it happened, but Griff never made sense.

Point being- just because it hasn't worked lately and we're a little upset at times doesn't mean he's ever gonna stop doing it. Switching Morel for Young sounds exactly like a KW move and I'm gonna be super nervous until Young lands somewhere else. For all we know, KW might think we have a gaping hole at 3B and that stance has some argument to it, even though most of us probably disagree (maybe not, but we do).

Imagine where this team would be right now if we had Danny Richar. God dammit, brings a tear to my eye.

Will never know until Morel gets a legitimate shot. I'm not saying he should be handed anything. But to continously trade off young 'spects in this neverending quest to 'go for it' every year when this formula has proven to be futile is not very intelligent. Don't get me wrong. I'm not at all saying guys like Morel and Dayan are untouchable. But not for a 34-year old, defensively-challenged player in decline. I don't care how much money we'd get back.

Totally on board with all this. KW loves the 1-dimensional past-prime guys and it scares the hell outa me with Young especially. I'm not sure if Young was ever on KW's radar as much as he's been talked about on here, but if so, then yikes. Yikes especially since the Rangers have to sell really low on Young. And Yikes at the over-pay we'd probably end up giving, although the Rios deal instills a shred of confidence in regard to overpay since it's a similar situation.

Nick Masset would be nice. But wait, Coop couldn't fix him.

Yea, that's who I was referring to. Shame on dude for even thinking I was wishing Richar was here.

And a few of those 200 hits that find their way to the outfield on said basketball court would likely find gloves in Chicago. It evens out.
