southsider2k5
QUOTE (High Mileage @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:59 PM) Melky's struggles appear to have been his own fault. He was out of shape and overweight the last few years. This past off-season he moved to Miami and "worked out" with A-Rod...

Why does Gio Gonzalez pitch well against everyone and implode against the Twins???? We did pretty good against Gio too.
Metz
Tigers calling up top pitching prospect Jacob Turner according to Jon Heyman. Turner was #21 overall prospect coming into this season, hes started 17 games this season in AA and is 3-5 with a 3.48 era. If you cant trade for a pitcher, just bring up the best that you have in the minors .. cant beat that logic right? On a more sad note, Its finally come to that time where theres a player in the majors that is younger then me, f***, albeit i have a solid 9 months on him. LittleHurt05
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:35 PM) Cabrera and Gordon are probably the co-MVP's of the Royals this season. Imagine if we'd been prescient enough to get Melky instead of Rios 2 years ago. Yeah, hindsight. Cabrera's look pretty darned bad the last couple of seasons before finally rebounding in pressure-less KC. If your co-MVPs are Melky Cabrera & Alex Gordon, then you are probably in last place. caulfield12
Well, in all fairness, the Royals have had a better offense than us for much of the last 3 seasons. Pitching, obviously, is their high fail rate...after Greinke. Reports of lots of interest in Cuddyer/Kubel...but Twins are reluctant to give up on this season. Tough position they're in, though, with 3 teams in front of them. And they still haven't done anything to solidify that bullpen. Just depends on how well Span/Morneau/Kubel play for them when they're all close to 100%. Especially, Morneau. I'm sure Twins' fans at this point are more hoping than expecting with everything he's gone through physically. chw42
Tigers get Fister for Furbush and Casper Wells. Ugh. The good thing is that the last time Detroit got a starter from Seattle, it was Jarrod Washburn and he sucked.

High Mileage
So Melky, Francoeur, Francis, Chen, and Davies all remain Royals. For once I'm actuallty okay with the team not moving filler types. Melky continues to hit very, very well while providing good enough defense and an excellent arm in center. Francouer is not hitting as well (still good for him) but has provided borderline great defense and an even better arm than Cabrera. Alex Gordon is finally living up to his promise, and again has provided great defense and arm in the outfield. The Royals have thrown out 20 runners at home this season. Here's a good read on the Royals' outfielders... http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/index.php...fantasy-season/ We did deal Mike Aviles to the Red Sox for infielder/outfielder Yamaico Navarro and reliever Kendal Volz. Great trade, IMO.
caulfield12
http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_18591786...ce=mng_fulltext Makes you wonder how much we'll end up losing (if anything) not trading Quentin or Danks over the deadline? Thornton or Floyd, it doesn't matter as much...or Alexei Ramirez, for that matter. Oh, well. Indians 2 1/2 GB, and the Twins on the road quickly looming up behind us. http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/blogs/126511928.html Pretty amazing the Twins are even where they're at considering everything the've gone through to get here. Span is back in CF, looks like Revere to the bench...they've considered moving Span to a corner spot, but his stronger arm is just too valuable in CF. That's Revere's biggest weakness, along with about a 600 OPS. Edited August 2, 2011 by caulfield12
Balta1701
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 08:17 AM) http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_18591786...ce=mng_fulltext Makes you wonder how much we'll end up losing (if anything) not trading Quentin or Danks over the deadline? Thornton or Floyd, it doesn't matter as much...or Alexei Ramirez, for that matter. Alexei, Thornton, Floyd all should be worth about as much, if not more, next season as they would be now. If nothing else, teams might have hesitated to trade for Alexei or Thornton because they haven't been all there with their performances this season. The same can be said about D1. Quentin though, unless he goes on one of his 1.200 OPS tears for the last 2 months of the season, yeah, he's going to be worth less in Dec than he would have been now. greg775
The legendary Bruce Chen stunk again tonight. Seriously, these pitchers who shut down the White Sox stink. Our offense is epically bad. All time bad. Chen goes 4 2/3 innings vs. Balt. LOL at our team.
witesoxfan
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 03:04 PM) DKnobler DKnobler by MDGonzales Purcey designated by Tigers. Bad day for struggling LH relievers. They traded their opening day 2B last year for him. That's not to say Scott Sizemore is necessarily a great player, but he's put up a .243/.333/.389/.722 with Oakland with the only real difference between his time in Detroit this year being that he's hit for a bit of power. He seems like an OK player at the very least and one that should be able to develop into a capable starter, especially given that he hit really well in the upper minors. See, Williams isn't the only one who trades solid, young position prospects for s***ty relievers!

caulfield12
Indians in the process of blowing a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the 8th in TEX. That's the second game this series they've let get away. 4-3 Rangers and threatening to put the game out of reach for Feliz. Really wanted the Indians to come into that DET series at home this week with some confidence, but no such luck. Just not the same team on the road. The White Sox are 8 games under AT HOME and 5 games over .500 on the road, strange.
