I think Lackey will be fine. ERA right around 4, give or take .25. One outing isn't going to change my mind.

So he's basically Gavin Floyd at $8 million+ more per season through 2014? I know Gavin went with the security and would make more on the open market. But still, the Lackey signing was/is looking pretty bad. But the Red Sox can absorb it. One, because they're so good in the drafting/developing department. Two, they've got paper.

Come again? I know you love young talent and all, but thinking that the Jays are a superior team to both the Yankees and the Red Sox is assinine. Only 2 of their starting 5 threw 100 innings in the majors last season.

I love what the Jays are doing, think there's a good chance they win 80 games this year on the strength of that offense, and are competing for division titles as soon as 2013, but this isn't the year. In fact, I'm expecting them to get out to about a 30-20 or 40-30 start only to see them come crashing down when all of their young pitchers start hitting a wall. And, to be quite honest, it wouldn't entirely surprise me to see Baltimore finish ahead of them this year, though I'm not expecting it.

I also think Tampa Bay is playing with fire this year. It's been a hot phrase around here, but there is no team in the entire major leagues that is as boom-or-bust as Tampa is. They have a completely rebuilt pitching staff and 4 new starters on offense. Many of them are risk/reward players. They are either going to mesh really well and win a lot of games, or it's going to blow up and get ugly.

Yeah, I actually like Toronto to finish ahead of Tampa this year. I don't like Tampa's chances at all. I think what they did in 08' and last year was very impressive, but now we're seeing just how difficult it can be not just to reach the postseason as an undercapitalized team, but to actually sustain it. They caught the lightning in the bottle, but now they're trying to hold on to it, and I just don't see it happening this year.

But you'd have to look at what contract Gavin will sign once he hits FA to really compare the two, wouldn't you?

Unless they catch lightning Tampa Bay-style, we will be having the exact same conversation in three years.

Although the Pirates havent had guys with the talent of McCutchen/Alvarez or even Walker/Tabata since Brian Giles. If those guys keep improving and their prospects pan out fans will support that team.

Man, y'all really need to peep Sons of Sam Horn if you get a chance. Ain't nothin' on earth funnier than pissed off Red Sox fans. They make me look like Scott Merkin. The Rangers took their asses to school. If they (Rangers) get solid/good SP, they're going to be awfully tough. Their lineup and bullpen are as good or better as any in baseball.

They usually are the first team hitting during a season. It is July-September in Dallas that does them in.

I don't get it?

The Rangers have an open air stadium and it gets very hot in the summer. Summertime in Dallas can quickly cause fatigue, exhaustion, and dehydration for athletes.

Personally I think Wilson/Lewis are gonna regress from last year and the other guys dont scare me. However, their lineup is potent and their bullpen is tough like you said, especially if Ogando gets put back there. I think they still win the division and I would not want to face those bats in the playoffs.

Gotta love BoSox fans going crazy already. Every team gets swept at least once a year, it happens. But I still would be a tad bit worried about that rotation after Lester & Buchholz.

You know, if the White Sox signed a free agent to a $140 million deal, and on the 3rd day of the season he was hitting 7th...I'd either be really, really impressed by our lineup, or really annoyed with that player.

Hm, seems ass-backwards to me. I'd be annoyed with the manager who hit him 7th after two subpar games. It's f***ing baseball.

I was watching the Cubs/DBacks game and Gibson called a hit and run. Brenly and Kasper were talking about how Gibson was going to be aggressive on the basepaths and put pressure on the defense. I think that's stupid because these guys' games are so refined that putting pressure on them isn't going to do a lot like it does in high school or even college ball. Then I remembered that it does happen so often, like 1 in 20 times. Then I realized that managers sit there and call these sac bunts and hit and runs and steal bases with players they shouldn't be doing any of those things with, and the 1 time out of 20 that it is works, they are probably going to turn to their bench coach and get all high and mighty and talk about how brilliant that strategy is because they made the team mess up and got 2 runs out of it. Then they'll give up a 3-run homer the next inning and eventually finish the season 67-95.

It was an epiphany of sorts.

Watching tigers vs. O's....and you know, on paper at least, the O's ain't that bad really, and they're playing pretty good out of the gate. Wonder if the AL East could be more interesting than just a 3 team race.

I have no idea how the Rays are going to score runs this year. I actually like Toronto a lot more.

Me too.

On another note, I think the guy in your avatar is going to be the talk of the NL this season.

The CY is his. I predicted it last year and he came up a bit short. But he's got a slider now to go along with the FB and curve. It's a wrap.

I don't see the Rays remaining competitive enough during the next month without Longo. They needed him to basically carry them this year, so his injury is pretty huge.

Yeah, it was going to be a major uphill climb with him in there. I just don't know where they're going to get consistent run production from. I guess there's a chance B.J. Upton could by chance finally realize he's one of the most talented players in baseball and start playing like it. Zobrist could revert to his '09 form. Both those are 50/50 propositions at best.

Craig Kimbrel is f***ing sick. And this is why Sox fans drive me crazy with the notion that you have to suck for 10 years to develop legitimate talent from within. He was a third round pick. We used a first round pick on a guy that will more than likely end up where Kimbrel is, anyway. It's going to be fun to see who racks up more Ks between he and Marmol.

Yeah, I just watched him on mlb.tv. Dude was gassing it by everyone with great control. I like how he clearly struck out the 2nd batter in the inning, but then struck him out again on the next pitch. lol.

On the Tigers/O's game, they just showed the standings in the AL East since Showwalter took over, and the O's have the best record in the East since he took over.

Showalter's a good tactical manager, regardless of what Ozzie says.
