PK got a lot of cheers in Arizona.

Q got some too.

Funny quote from Rosenbloom

Konerko, Carlos Quentin and Starlin Castro¿ combined to go 0-4, make an error, get thrown out at the plate, and make the last out of the All-Star Game with a teammate on third. Doesn’t matter where you play, it’s still Chicago baseball.

I didn't want to bag on CQ and Paulie, but that's what I thought.

That last inning was so typical of our season. CQ slow as hell on the bases can't even consider scoring.

Paullie with the out with runners on 2nd and 3rd.

Castro's throw was a joke; gave the AL a chance.

Very dull game. Some NL team is gonna be happy it gets homefield.

Cooper was on Mully & Hanley this morning, showing why he could never be a manager. It gets interesting around the 10 minute mark about booing Dunn.

I respect Cooper as a pitching coach, but he needs to keep his trap shut about the fans, even if if he's right.

White Sox closer Sergio Santos' slider is one of the most devastating pitches in baseball. While the pitch was above-average in 2010, it has been nearly unhittable this year.

Sergio Santos’ Slider

Last Two Seasons

2010 2011

Slider Pct 23.3 29.6

Opp BA .149 .063

Miss Pct 51.6 67.0

K Pct 56.9 74.2

>>Leads MLB

Opposing hitters are just 4-for-64 against him in at-bats ending with a slider. Righties have yet to touch him this season, with zero hits in 41 at-bats ending in a slider.

Of the 104 two-strike sliders Santos has thrown to all batters, 49 have resulted in strikeouts, giving him a putaway rate of 47.1 percent, which is by far the best mark in the league.

One key to his success with the slider this season has been his ability to effectively locate the pitch out of the strike zone. Opposing hitters have only one hit in 37 at-bats ending in a slider out of the zone. Of the 36 outs he’s recorded on a chased slider, 33 of them have been strikeouts, as batters have missed on nearly 90 percent of their swings at out-of-zone sliders.

Clearly no. Had I seen that thread that would have been a great place to put the heat map and the swing and miss numbers.

I can't believe you thought that was anything but a rhetorical question based on the habit of posting links to your original post anytime someone posts something after you did. I really need to start using green or something because you really have been swinging and missing a lot lately.

I'm just taking after Adam Dunn.

I just read both Keith Law's and BaseballAmerica's mid-season Top 50 Prospects list, and didn't see a single White Sox player. Is your guys' system really that bare...?

Outside of Dayan Viciedo, who probably doesn't count on those lists any more (Service Time), yes.

Viciedo isn't eligible due to his time spent in the majors last year, but otherwise yes, rather barren. I think they're missing on Addison Reed who probably isn't top 50 cause he's a projected reliever, but looks like a real keeper.

Anyone know if Reed has been discussed as a possible conversion to becoming a starter going forward? That sure could help things were it possible.

Pretty much. I personally wouldn't put any reliance on Keith Law when it comes to the Sox, but in this case he'd be right. Though I contend Viciedo could easily be in that 50.

You should go look at our Future Sox forum, lots of prospect discussions there, and we'll have a new Sox Top 25 Prospects list up soon.

ETA; Poster above makes a good point, they may consider Viciedo ineligible.

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 11:10 PM)
This is the kind of defeatist attitude the team has with the Twins. "No matter what we do, we'll lose." Why shouldn't we play the best matchup? Just because Verlander has been amazing we should just throw a sacrificial lamb out there "because we can't beat him?" This is why we can't beat the Twins- there is a mentality about it. Like you said- Gavin is really good against the Tigers. So what you're suggesting is take a flop on the Verlander matchup so we can use Gavin on a matchup that is better for us to win? I say we put our best players out there in the matchups against there best players so we can mitigate losses and maximize wins.

Drunk self-righteousness bump. Sox winnah!
