but probably won't because they still believe they can/will catch fire in a bad division.

I have no special insight...but if I were in that chair and the Sox lost 2 of 3 in Cleveland, that'd be it.

A part of me is really convinced the whole reason we haven't done anything yet is because of the long homestand that is starting now. I get the feeling we will see a deadline meltdown.

I understand why they wouldn't want to do anything - being 4 or 5 games out of a very winnable division gives them reason to believe that if the team can finally live up to management's expected level of play could mean being just good enough to win a division. On the other hand, Williams has made a series of costly moves over the last few seasons (acquiring Dunn, Peavy and Rios) and a team he thought (and probably still thinks) was capable of winning the division isn't even plan average ball through 100 games. His false believe in this team could hurt next year's team as well. Instead of realizing that 2011 White Sox are an 80 win team, they seem content in sticking with the same players, game after game, specifically in the lineup, and hoping that they finally start hitting. Instead, they could be working towards adding 1-2 younger players who are making no money, but who could help the team next season, and give Williams better options than leaning on a broken farm system that hasn't produced much. I also believe he could make these moves (trading Jackson would mean they depend on Peavy more for about a month, but they return to a 5 man rotation and could go to a 4 man rotation in September....trading Quentin does potentially further cripples a struggling offense, but Viceido does at least provide a replacement who has shown good potential) and not necessarily destroy this year's team from winning a bad division. In my view, this team has too many holes, and too little financial flexibility going forward to go "all in" on a .500 caliber club 100 games in.

I think that by Wednesday the 27th - we'll be able to clearly see where the Sox stand.

It's not looking good after the last three in KC thou.

Hopefully they finally wake up - but my breath is not held.

Just a quick lineup/roster thought that has probably been discussed: Hopefully Dunn goes on the DL, Morel gets sent down (to get regular AB's although I'm not sold on him being any thing more than a career backup), and we see Viciedo and De Aza come up, with Rios going full time on the bench.

Pierre, Ramirez, Konerko, Quentin, Pierzynski, Viciedo, Teahen, Gordon, De Aza/Lillibridge

That lineup still is nothing special, but would hopefully be a great breath of fresh air compared to what we are used to seeing.

That's exactly what I would hope the lineup is. I'd platoon Tank/TCQ in RF/DH and mix Flowers into the DH mix as well.

The solution is so simple it's infuriating.

With the quality pitching and defense this team gets every night it doesn't need a special lineup. Just decent and they win the Division.

The bullpen faded last year, I think they don't want it to fade this year as appearances pile up. It all may be moot if they don't start winning some games. A bad weekend this weekend and the season could be over. A good one, and they will amazingly be right there. A sweep would be devine.

The sad thing is though...upgrading the bullpen right now most likely means replacing a guy with a 2.30 ERA. Yeah, he can't keep that up with his 1.56 WHIP, but Bruney would be the guy to swap out, and he hasn't been bad. (Unless we sell off a starter)

ERA is a terrible way to rate guys out of the bullpen.

Juan Pierre is batting .356 since June 26 despite going 0-for-4 on Friday against the Indians.

When Pierre was off to a rough start both defensively and with the bat, his contract — which is up after the season — couldn’t expire fast enough for a fan base dying to see minor-league slugger Dayan Viciedo in the outfield. Or Jordan Danks, or Alejandro De Aza.

Pierre’s average is up to .273, but there’s little doubt this will be his last season, even though the Sox will need to find a new leadoff man. He’s making $8.5  million, his stolen bases (15-for-26) are way down off his major-league high of 68 last season, and he turns 34 next month.

‘‘I know how it works,’’ he said, ‘‘with young guys being ready and stuff. I would love to be back here because they gave me the chance to play here. But it’s out of my control. Whether they think it was a bad trade for getting me or wasted their time, I will always be grateful to the White Sox organization.’’

I really respect Juan. Not only has he hit a heck of a lot better, making himself a serviceable MLB player than last month, but he is a classy dude.
