Rios is pretty damn strong and athletic...too bad he can't do much with it on the baseball field.

And it's also good to see that he might actually give a s***.

This is probably the first time he's ever drawn heavy criticism.

I challenge somebody to start a thread congratulating Juan. He gets severe hate on here for some reason. Juan is a pro's pro. Congrats on 2,000.

He doesn't get nearly as much hate as you proclaim. Early in the season; when he couldn't hit, got caught stealing 94.2% of the time, and dropped some crucial fly balls; he was hated on (and rightfully so). He's been decent since then. He deserves the recognition for 2000 hits, and he will get it.

And why would you challenge anyone to start a thread? Why don't you just start a thread when he gets his 2000th hit?

He doesn't?

I got jumped for calling him a "good" ballplayer. You can't even get people on here to admit he's "good."

Of course I then asked for the definition of good and Quentin wasn't good either.

Juan Pierre is a good ball player. Whether he is with this team in 2012 remains to be seen though. But, reagrdless of what folks may think about Juan Pierre he is a good player and prepares in the right way. He gives it his all and at this point in his career maybe that's all there is to give. I would not be against him being back here next year, but I doubt that will happen when you consider his $8.5M a year salary and our crowded OF situation.

My biggest problem with this post is that "Juan Pierre prepares the right way".

Yes, we know Juan Pierre is always in the weight room, Juan Pierre works out as hard as anyone on the team. I get that. But the last 2 years, Juan Pierre has had a disastrous April...and Juan Pierre's disastrous Aprils have been key to 2 straight terrible openings for the team. And prior to coming to the White Sox, Juan Pierre's Aprils look a lot like any other month for Juan Pierre.

I think Juan Pierre genuinely has a preparation issue. It's not effort or weight training or being in shape like it might be for some guys...I think it's more "Getting into baseball mode" for him. I think Ozzie decides that Juan Pierre knows how to get Juan Pierre ready and doesn't push him to take the amount of BP and Fielding practice in spring training that he does with a guy who isn't one of Ozzie's guys...and you see that come out in Juan's terrible Aprils.

No, you ignore stats that people show you and rely only on your own eye test and what "other people that you know that are not on this site" tell you.

Dont act like people dont back up their points on this site. The only person who I consistently see that makes points and consistently fails to back them up with any form of statistical analysis is YOU.

You also make broad generalizations of what people say on this site. Nobody said Quentin sucks. Pretty much everyone here agrees that Quentin is an injury liability, he is due for a big payday, and is far too streaky to pay him the big bucks that he is going to be asking for. So, these same people agree that he is someone who should be put on the trading block to get value for him before he goes to the open market. I am sorry you dont understand that part of the business, but that is all it is. Business

No, he doesn't. As I said, early in the year he got plenty of hate. Since then, I'd say he hasn't been talked about much. We'll see the posts, positive or negative, when something happens, but that's about it. I just don't understand why you'd "challenge" someone to start a thread when Juan gets his 2000th hit. Why wouldn't he be recognized for that?

It makes me so angry that he has the audacity to say that about anyone else. The man uses no logic whatsoever, but acts as though he does and nobody else does.

If Juan Pierre ever reaches 3000 hits (I doubt he will), that will be the most empty 3000 hits in the history of baseball.

I also don't doubt that the 2000 hits he will have soon will be one of the most empty 2000 hit careers in the history of baseball.

Define empty. I agree his 2000 hits are nothing remotely close to Konerko's 2000 hits, but they are completely different players. A lot of Juan's hits would have been lead-off hits, bloop singles, infield hits, bunt singles, and of course 16 HRs. A lot of those hits may not have led to anything, especially if he got on base and no one behind him did anything.

Empty as in he hits nothing but singles. His career ISO is under .07, meaning that he gets an extra base hit in 7% of his at bats.
