justBLAZE
QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 28, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) Humber is scheduled to face KC tomorrow. With this, I think that means they'll push his first start back to April 9. If they were intending on him starting the 5th game in KC, I doubt they would let him face the Royals tomorrow. They would probably have him pitch a AAA game. Merkin keep on throwing the APRIL 6th date around when talking about Humber.. I realize it's not saying much, but worth noting. flavum
The Sox head to the airport tomorrow at 5 central. It'll be a bunch of kids playing tomorrow and there's a possible rainout on Wednesday, so today could be it for AB's until Friday afternoon. flavum
Looks like they decided to change Humber to the minor league game tomorrow. He's supposed to go five innings, and Peavy is supposed to pitch a couple innings as well.

He's not on a big contract, and if no one claims him, he's a free agent. There's no real reason to expect him to decide to return to the sox. ScottyDo
Does anyone else think Joe Buck's call in the 2005 WS was one of the worst ever? Every time they replay it on that Score commercial, it's like nails on a chalkboard. "Juan Uribe with a play, charging it, throwing it..." So...freaking...LAZY!!!! What kind of description is that? "A guy, does a thing, and someone is out, I guess." My grandma could call that play better and she barely knows where she is! What a terrible broadcaster. /aside Edited March 29, 2011 by ScottyDo

MiddleCoastBias
The 1st and 10 crew on ESPN2 this morning picked the AL Central in the WS- Skip has the Twins winning it all, Rob has us losing to the Giants. I know these guys are not baseball guys but still fun to see another person in our corner.

See, I don't think that's quite it because he has slobbery man-love for the Yankees/Red Sox/Cubs, so if it was one of them I think he might pee his pants. YASNY
Joe Buck can't even sniff his father's shoes, let alone walk in them. That said, it's almost impossible to be memorably good when you have the wretched Tim McCarver as your color commentator.

Balta1701
Other teams had worse OPS's out of the DH spot than us, so I was surprised to see this statistic about last year's team. Chicago White Sox They owned the league’s lowest WAR from designated hitters (-0.8) last season. If Adam Dunn’s WAR this season is somewhere around 3.4 (approximately what it would have been over the last six seasons if he didn’t have to play any defense), then he should greatly impact an offense that ranked seventh in runs in the American League in 2010. witesoxfan
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 30, 2011 -> 09:55 AM) Other teams had worse OPS's out of the DH spot than us, so I was surprised to see this statistic about last year's team. That's because there's absolutely no way that's correct. http://www.baseball-reference.com/play-ind...HW|2010|bat|AB| What I imagine these writers did was look at Kotsay's fWAR - -0.7 - his bWAR - -0.9 - and found the average of those two to, you know, make everyone happy. They then just said that he was the full-time designated hitter and didn't consider anybody else who did DH. It's not entirely flawed, because Dunn is replacing most of those ABs, but they are absolutely incorrect in their analysis. Beyond that, what's worse about them using simply WAR for DH is that it includes the fielding quotient of WAR too. Depending on who you use, Kotsay was worth -2 to -4 runs saved defensively last year, but DHs don't play the field, so that tends to work against one's argument. What would have been better was to simply say "Mark Kotsay was awful but now they have Adam Dunn so the White Sox are going to be way better"
