Several teams with worse records are playing better baseball now. Oakland, KC, Minny, Marlins, Pads.

Don't the sox have one of the best records in all of baseball since May 10th or so?

Far from since they've been winning a majority of series. Since this is a game of streak, the Sox are due for one of those losing streaks.

Peavy's arm is like falling off, thanks to the fact that we didn't give him extended rest after he pitched in relief (which was assinine). Now we aren't going to push him to the very end to give him extended rest? Why? Why? Why?

This is just crazy, as I said in the game thread, we treated Peavy like Terry Mulholland his rubber arm used to be treated. Just put his ass on the DL, it's not like he's been effective anyways.

This has to be matchups based, right?

Gavin has been really good against the Tigers in his career. It doesn't make any sense to have him face Verlander though, no matter how well he pitches we'll lose.

I am thinking it is a loss of control because of the groin injury and not the relief role. He can't extend and push the way he needs to with those legs and lower body

Going on relatively short rest after a relief appearance may have something to do with that.

People that are blaming the relief appearance for Peavy's crumminess baffle me.

What if somebody pitches in the all star game in relief after pitching Saturday or something. And they come back and suck. I guess there will be those who blame the all star appearance.

This is the kind of defeatist attitude the team has with the Twins. "No matter what we do, we'll lose." Why shouldn't we play the best matchup? Just because Verlander has been amazing we should just throw a sacrificial lamb out there "because we can't beat him?" This is why we can't beat the Twins- there is a mentality about it. Like you said- Gavin is really good against the Tigers. So what you're suggesting is take a flop on the Verlander matchup so we can use Gavin on a matchup that is better for us to win? I say we put our best players out there in the matchups against there best players so we can mitigate losses and maximize wins.

Matchups don't matter with our team.

We had Peavy going against some soft tosser I never heard of today and we didn't stand a chance.

I agree with you. Just pitch whoever we want to pitch. Sox can lose to anybody.

I agree Greg. At some point people are going to have to accept that he is not a great pitcher anymore and stop making excuses. He, like Jackson, may have a dominant game every so often but the ace potential is gone and an extended rest won't help.

Isn't "just accept that he's not a great pitcher any more" also making excuses?

I'm not going to reach that conclusion until he finishes his contract.
