Well, he got 2 hits off Felipe Paulino today, he is a major leaguer. His 3rd hit was off of Eric Stults, another major leaguer.

He got a double off of Joe Martinez. He has 50 career innings, but is more of a AAAA guy I think. Got a hit off Jensen Lewis, who is a major leaguer. Another hit off of Jess Todd, who has 28 career innings.

Those are from the past 2 games, so yeah, most hits were off of major league pitchers.

Viciedo can hit, but to get excited about how anyone is hitting on March 8th is really stretching it.

IIRC, a player has to go through waivers any time he's removed from the 40-man roster OR any time he is sent to the minors as an out-of-options player. I'm pretty sure that any player who passes through waivers unclaimed, regardless of his status, can either accept a minor league assignment (if offered) or elect free agency instead. The money is guaranteed though, so the player still gets paid.

Usually guys like Teahen are DFA'd, pass through waivers, and then are straight released.

Edit: nevermind, it does appear a player has the right to reject an assignment only after he's accumulated enough service time.

Here's something from Rob Neyer:

Hmm, it's only 5, so then I was correct in the first place. I thought it was 6, probably because that is the required time to reach free agency.

Not only that, but he can demand a trade too - not that there would be a ton of interest for him on the open market.

Teahen is not going anywhere. I think he actually may be valuable as the utility type guy. Think Mark derosa, fills in almost everywhere, nowhere great due to his inability to throw the ball from third to first, but if someone goes down he can suffice for a bit. He's also still 29 so even though hes overpaid maybe he comes into his own in that type of role. Milledge has the most upside but I think lillibridge makes the most sense. Sure milledge and de aza are fast enough to pinch run but I think the threat of a sb is only there with brent which oz could push for and he is more versatile. That being said how many extra infielders are needed with teahan and vizquel able to play the 4 positions between the two. I also do not think viciedo should make the team. Store him in the minors and if CQ or when CQ gets hurt bring him up. Let him develop into a position instead of rotating him around.

Agreed, but Ozzie has said in the past he doesn't like using Omar as a late inning sub. Thinks it is insulting to someone that storied.

O and whoever mentioned Aaron Rowand I highly doubt it and don't want him over teahan. Thanks for 05 and you were my favorite player on the team but he is making 12 mil the next two years (compared to the 10 for teahan) and at 33 coming off a season with 102 games due to injury and performance what do you expect out of him besides the continuance of declining numbers and defense?

I wasn't really talking of late inning subs on defense for infielders. Don't think they will really or should use defensive subs in the infield with ramirez playing at a gg level, becks taking the next step and morel living up to his ability. More being able to handle a couple of starts in different positions and steping in like last year if injury occurs is what our infield depth will be called upon for.

Well to credit the poster he did say that the Giants would have to even the salaries.

Teahen most likely will be barely replacement level, same with Rowand, thus I don't really see it being a productive trade since the Sox are pretty weak for backup infielders. Yes, they have Vizquel and Lillibridge, but Im not banking on anything from either, especially Lillibridge who is just plain awful.

And it's Teahen.

Was there today. Danks looked good. Made a few mistakes but otherwise strong quick and confident. Thornton got screwed out of a K otherwise he gets out of that inning clean. carter looked good. the kid at the end threw heat. flowers had a nice day, danks2 had a few nice hits but looked lost in cf. viciendo looked real good again but not in the of. beckham looked real confident. rios looked comfortable. de aza looked decent. dallas mcphereson is terrible.
