sox-r-us
Ordonez is AL's Player of the Month August 4, 2003, 3:03 PM CDT Sox rightfielder Magglio Ordonez was the American League Player of the Month for July after hitting .429 with 13 doubles, seven home runs and 24 RBIs. Ordonez led AL in average, hits, total bases (81), doubles, slugging percentage (.771) and extra-base hits (21), tied teammates Paul Konerko and Carlos Lee for the lead with 24 RBIs, tied for the lead with 22 runs scored, and ranked second with a .474 on-base percentage. His .429 average was the fifth-highest monthly figure in White Sox history, and his 45 hits tied Harold Baines, who did it twice, for the second-highest monthly total since 1974. It's the first time Ordeonez has won the monthly award. He has been named AL Player of the Week five times during his career, including three times in 2002. Esteban Loaiza was named AL Pitcher of the Month for April. Paul Konerko was the last Sox position player to win the monthly award, in June 2002. whitesox247
Now that Garett Anderson is getting some recognition, Maggs is definately the most underated player in baseball. Congrats Maggs
greg775
Maggs is incredible. He deserves POM. I do hope his recent 0 for 13 or whatever it is will end tonight.
rafacosta
This was a no-brainer. Maggs

Soxplosion
Im sorry but Maggs wont win MVP no matter what we do. Carlos Delgado has 31 bombs and 107 RBIs. His team wont make the playoffs but that doesnt matter. When you do as well as hes done, youre definitely the favorite to win the MVP. Didnt Sammy win the MVP in 1998 even tho McGwires Cards went to the playoffs? Please correct me if Im wrong...

Soxplosion
Oh. My bad. But either way, with what Delgados doing, he wont win it. And besides, Maggs is barely going to make 100 RBIs. I think he will but 105 RBIs (unless youre hitting like .380) is not gonna get ya MVP...
rafacosta
Roman, if Toronto dont make the playoffs, Delgado wont be the MVP. I think he deserves the MVP, but the voters dont consider players in losing teams.
Soxplosion
I think they should. This is "Most Valuable Player". Baseballs a team sport but this is an individual award. Its not the "Most Helpful Player" award. Actually, this kinda sucks. Its based now completely on stats and nothing else. Ya dont see Rafael Furcal or Robbie Alomar (who made one hell of a smart baseball play today) winning MVP. Its always Bonds, Sosa, and the other big guys... Who's more "valueable", the guy with the big stats or the guy that who's good year led his team to a division crown. In other words, the Sox win the Central with Maggs at .315 30 105 and Arod has .340 45 130 for the last place Rangers. Who do you vote for? I think this way: if Maggs has this numbers that you said and A Rod has .340, 60 HRs, 160 RBIs. I think A Rod is the MVP, because it's a monster year....340 45 130 dont get it IMO. But then you got Brett Boone hitting 40 homeruns with 130 RBIs (which is roughly what hes on pace for ) for the AL West winning Mariners. Id love to see Maggs win it but he wont... Soxplosion
Well yas. If they go by your thinking and dont select either of the best individual hitters in the league (Vernon Wells, 96 RBIs, and Delgado, 107) as the MVP, they could very well select Brett Boone. He has one more RBI than Giambi and he plays on a very good team. As shocking as it would be, I would not be surprised if he won it. For all you SI readers out there, this is a definite sign of the apocalypse...
