IlliniKrush
Yeah, though the Kentucky/UConn game had more talent on the floor, the play itself wasn't much better if at all.
danman31
If UConn wins tomorrow it will only be the second time a team that wasn't a No. 1 seed won the national title without beating a No. 1 seed. The other was UConn in 2004. Go figure.

The other was UConn in 2004. Go figure. UConn beat Duke who was a No. 1 seed in the final 4 that year and that UConn team was the best team in the country but had some injuries during the season IIRC which is the only reason they weren't a No. 1 seed. That UCONN team played better in the NCAA Tournament than any team this century, in my opinion. Teams had absolutely no shot against them, as their worst starter was probably the best player in the tourney (R. Anderson). Not bad to go with Okafor, Ben Gordon, Boone, Villanueva, Armstrong, T. Brown, etc.

I still wish that Illinois team had been on the other side of the bracket from Duke and UConn because they would have had a great shot at making the final 4 with how they were playing at the end of the year. Duke was winning that whole game too and were up by like 10 with 3 or so minutes left before UConn made quite the come back. And ya, Emeka was hurt for a decent part of that season iirc which derailed them but then they ran through the big east tournament and were pretty much the favorites going into the NCAA's. Soxbadger
This is going to be a dreadful game. Refs are going to have to let Butler foul a ton otherwise they wont have starters left.
whitesoxfan99
It is truly incredible how little talent there is on the floor for a national championship game.
Soxbadger
Butler barely held on against Wisconsin on one of Wisconsin's worst days. That one will always sting.

I would say there's 3 talented players on the court in Kemba, Mack, and Lamb. The rest of these guys are garbage.
whitesoxfan99
This game blows. I remember when good teams used to play for the championship.

whitesoxfan99
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 4, 2011 -> 08:52 PM) If possible, it's getting worse. I was telling my brother the other day that Walker and Mack are probably the only players in this game that would start for any of the teams in the 08 Final 4 or for UNC or Illinois in the championship game from 04-05, Florida in either of their title years, UNC in 09 etc.
whitesoxfan99
I'm absolutely furious that one of these teams is going to win a title but the 04-05 Illini didn't. I'm turning this s*** off soon. There is just no skill on the floor. I know these teams are good defensively but there are also simply no players who can make plays. Soxbadger
Moving your feet is now a charge, if Howard is involved. This is just brutal.

Both the charge calls that went against UConn were incorrect. This game is laughably bad.
Jordan4life_2007
College basketball can be like alcohol at times. Your best friend and your worst enemy. This first half of play has been really insulting.
Jenksismyhero
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Apr 4, 2011 -> 09:10 PM) Both the charge calls that went against UConn were incorrect. This game is laughably bad. Except for the fact that both kemba and that other dude lowered their shoulder. That's an easy call every time, even if the defender is moving. I agree this game is pretty brutal though. Historically brutal. I'm not sure that i can remember a worse half of a championship game.

Soxbadger
I disagree, had Howard not awkwardly gotten in his path it wouldnt have been a foul on either player, the guy didnt lower his shoulder to try and run through the defender. Many times players lower their shoulder, its not always a foul.
