It is blackmail. Much as I hate to admit it, the Dems including Obama and even Harry friggin Reid are 100% right on this one. Blackmail has to be met with a stone wall. lostfan
I'm stealing this from Facebook. Ok, we all get together at recess to play kickball. We pick kickball because we all voted on it. The biggest majority of us chose that game over Double Dutch. However.....the jumprope kids are upset that we won't play the game they want. In order to satisfy the jumprope kids, we vote again. 42 times. The vote holds. Does this satisfy the jumprope kids??? Not at all. They ask the principal to throw out the vote and pick jumprope for them. The principal looks at the issues and says no. The jumprope kids tell all the other kids that playing kickball is evil and will kill you. Some of the Special Ed kids ACTUALLY buy that story. We'll call them the "Juicebox Party". They get angry because they don't understand how or why a vote works. They just know they didn't get their way. Finally, after trying everything they could think of, the jumprope kids set the school on fire and blame the kickball kids. This is how I explained the shutdown to a 10 year old. They think the jumprope kids are stupid. I agree.

greg775
QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 01:22 PM) Duke, you have reached an all time low. In my years here I have read some pretty despicable things, yesterday you hit the Hall of Shame. Frankly I am embarrased as a long time member here and a mod to allow your posts to remain visible. I hope that most readers understand that you do not reflect the soxtalk community. As a state employee I personally find your remarks insensitive, demeaning, insulting, and beyond contempt. For the first time since I became a mod I will be recommending that your posting privileges be suspended. My guess is he's gawn. You can't wish ill on a person's family like he did. Hickory has to be feeling pretty low. He needs the money and has to hit his own retirement funds just to keep the family running. We should be starting a soxtalk fundraising effort if he needs the cash rather than Duke's pathetic stance. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 02:10 PM) Here's a good guideline... when anyone says something along the lines of "ALL (insert any profession here) are (insert demeaning descriptor here)", you can automatically dismiss anything else they type after that. Clearly they are not functioning within the bounds of reality. Awesome post. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 03:23 PM) Total overreaction. Soxbadger
If Chisox was really interested Id set up a NFP for Soxtalk where people could donate funds that would be used for other members. Possibly could get it 501c3, but with the govt being shut down....... Now onto my rant. So tonight I went to Atoms for Peace (amazing) and Im really rolling in deep thought. And Ive been ranting about the govt shutdown for hours, because Im pretty sure no one actually gets the fact that the US govt is now not paying its bills over a f***ing childish game of chicken. This really pains me because I love Lincoln and Reagan, but I want to end the Republican party. I want them to look back at this day and realize this was the day that they mother f***ing blew it because they let their millionaire egos get in the way of just keeping the game going. Thats all these stupid ass b****es had to do, was just keep the god damn ship from hitting the shore. Im actually angry as an American. This reflects poorly on me. Im legitimate, if you lend me money, you get your money back, I dont f***ing break my promises. These clowns are ruining my name, and thats personal. cabiness42
If Chisox was really interested Id set up a NFP for Soxtalk where people could donate funds that would be used for other members. Possibly could get it 501c3, but with the govt being shut down....... OK, before this gets too far, I want to explain my situation in detail so people know exactly what they'd be supporting. My next paycheck would normally arrive 10/12. If the shutdown ends by Monday, I won't miss a paycheck. However, my backup plan for missing a paycheck is to make a withdrawal from my retirement account, and it takes 10 days to get that money, so I couldn't wait until Monday to make that decision and have gone ahead and requested 4 weeks salary. I figure that 4 weeks is a worst-case scenario in a shutdown, and with us spending money only on food, gas, and paying bills, we can make that 4 weeks salary stretch 6-7 weeks if we need to. Now, what I have lost permanently is the 10% penalty I have to pay on that withdrawal, plus I lose the agency match to my retirement contributions for six months. That's going to add up to about $3000. Now, if Soxtalk feels compelled to share in the loss of that $3000, I'm not going to say no, but I don't want anybody believing that I need money in order to feed my family. At least not for another 4+ weeks.

Because they are attaching riders to things that should be a clean vote. Why hasn't Boehner voted for the 3 clean CRs the Senate has passed? Why has the house suddenly moved to regular order? You want negotiations? How about "okay obama, we'll give you some part of the immigration bill, if you delay x from obama care" That's a negotiation. Both sides give and get something. A negotiation is not "Okay, we're going to take down this country unless you pass all these bills we want!"

The Federal retirement plan isn't exactly a 401k, though it's very similar. In any case, I already have an outstanding loan from when we bought our house, and the rules do not allow for a second loan, nor for refinancing the existing loan. It also doesn't allow for taking out a loan while in a nonpay status.
