Texsox
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 01:30 PM) Most of the breweries i've been to have been. It's normally a tour and a beer or a flight of beer for free. And then you can stick around and drink like you're at a bar. We use to pre-game at the Miller Brewery before hanging with some friends at UWM. It was all you can drink, then they would give you two tokens, but there were always people giving up their tokens. Texsox
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 01:15 PM) Yeah I'm not entirely sure why a tasting room wouldn't just fall under the local liquor license. Because they sometimes "taste" products that are not for sale or packaged for regular sales. Plus there are federal inspectors already coming into the manufacturing side. (As I understand it from manufacturing). There has been a push by manufacturers to reduce the number of different agencies they have to deal with. So if the Feds are already going to be there, have them inspect as much as possible and keep the local inspectors out.
cabiness42
Supposedly there are enough votes to pass a clean CR in the house, yet the vote isn't happening. That, more than anything else, sums up why American politics sucks so bad.

There could easily be enough votes in the Senate to pass any of the temp funding bills the House has passed, but we'll never know since Reid won't let them come for a vote. Soxbadger
Because democrats are going to win the publicity battle this time and Republicans are idiots for fighting a battle thats already lost? I have no clue who they hire to do their strategy, but this is childs play. Seriously you just f***ing settle, 99% of America will forget it ever happened and then you do this battle all over again and hope the next time you are winning the publicity battle. This cycle will repeat until I die and people will think that all of this really matters. Guess what, it doesnt. The people with money play both sides. Besides for a few ideologues most just dont care who is in power as long as the person in power is willing to play the game. And you dont become President, Senator or Congressman unless you want to play. Might as well be 2 children fighting to be their parents favorite. Surprise ending, parents only care about themselves. Jake
Gerrymandering and first past the post elections make this make complete sense. The people being jagoffs in this scenario (GOP, particularly the far right of it) are actually improving their personal chances of re-election

There's good reason people believe there are enough votes in the house-public statements by enough republicans. 2) Obama will veto this anyway. Texsox
The ACA was passed three years ago over Republican objections. Obama was re-elected over Romney's objections and making "Obamacare" issue #1 "A referendum on Obamacare" he said. The SCOTUS ruled it Constitutional over Republican objections Now (some) Republicans are refusing to pass a CR to fund the government unless it includes delaying the ACA. How can you not give credit to the Republican party for their determination and resolve? Their willingness to fight till the end! Funny how much in common those members seem to have with the Occupy XX movement. As Democrats I believe it is important to look past partisan politics and wonder if this really is the boondoggle that will destroy America. The folks across the aisle are not stupid. It is easy to dismiss this as a ploy because if it is successful, it could destroy the party. Are they simply looking after themselves, or looking after the country? The folks across the aisle are not stupid. It is easy to dismiss this as a ploy because if it is successful, it could destroy the party. Are they simply looking after themselves, or looking after the country? The only thing that would destroy America is to give in at this point. It doesnt matter if the Democrats are right or wrong, they just cant not give into this type of tactic. You cant give into extortion. If you do, then it becomes a legitimate strategic ploy in the future. Each party will continue to do this until eventually America is destroyed. What makes me the most annoyed is that they dont even have the courage to stand up and admit that is what they are doing. People like Ann Coulter prance around saying things like "the American people didnt want this". When has that ever mattered before? The American people may not want weed to be illegal, but we dont have a direct democracy, we have a republic where the legislators are elected and they get to do what the f*** they want. You really think the Republicans want direct election? Of course not. They just think they are so damn clever. And its finally time for the reckoning. StrangeSox
The GOP changed the House rules (fully within their rights) on September 30th to ensure that the Senate bill could not come to the floor: http://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/the-house-...teed-a-shutdown The House and Senate were at an impasse on the night of Sept. 30. The House's then-most-recent ploy for extracting Obamacare concessions from Senate Democrats and the White House -- by eliminating health insurance subsidies for Congress members and their staffs -- had been rejected by the Senate. The 'clean' Senate spending bill was back in the House's court. With less than two hours to midnight and shutdown, Speaker John Boehner's latest plan emerged. House Republicans would "insist" on their latest spending bill, including the anti-Obamacare provision, and request a conference with the Senate to resolve the two chambers' differences. Under normal House rules, according to House Democrats, once that bill had been rejected again by the Senate, then any member of the House could have made a motion to vote on the Senate's bill. Such a motion would have been what is called "privileged" and entitled to a vote of the full House. At that point, Democrats say, they could have joined with moderate Republicans in approving the motion and then in passing the clean Senate bill, averting a shutdown. But previously, House Republicans had made a small but hugely consequential move to block them from doing it. Here's the rule in question: When the stage of disagreement has been reached on a bill or resolution with House or Senate amendments, a motion to dispose of any amendment shall be privileged. In other words, if the House and Senate are gridlocked as they were on the eve of the shutdown, any motion from any member to end that gridlock should be allowed to proceed. Like, for example, a motion to vote on the Senate bill. That's how House Democrats read it. But the House Rules Committee voted the night of Sept. 30 to change that rule for this specific bill. They added language dictating that any motion "may be offered only by the majority Leader or his designee."

The folks across the aisle are not stupid. It is easy to dismiss this as a ploy because if it is successful, it could destroy the party. Are they simply looking after themselves, or looking after the country? The shutdown or the PPACA? Because this type of governance reminds me so much of how California got itself into such trouble. You had an entrenched minority focused on a couple issues that, thanks to very poorly written laws and rules for how the houses operated, had just enough people to prevent any budget from being passed unless virtually all of their demands were met. Consequently for decades it was nearly impossible to pass a budget or alter the tax structure at all, and the state only became governable once that minority finally became small enough that budgets could be passed while ignoring them.
