fathom
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 04:59 PM) I noticed at spring training that his bat speed just looked slow. He had trouble catching up to any fastballs and it looks right now that he's completely in between on his swing. If you're referring to Beckham, I had the chance to hear DJ analyze his swing in his first AB last night. Said Beckham's not completing his loading mechanism fast enough, so there's too much movement while the pitch is in the air and he's not able to get his hands/barrel through the zone fast enough. Milkman delivers
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 08:07 AM) They are too wildly inconsistent in every facet of the game to be taken seriously. Whatever it was that Ozzie used to do to get the best out of his team is gone. They should be winning on talent alone and they are not. That was perfect. LVSoxFan
You guys do realize, don't you, that when KW made his first run at Peavy he was not injured?
southsider2k5
QUOTE (Socal Cid @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 10:50 AM) Big difference in buying low and taking a flyer on someone while paying them a couple of million, as opposed to the rediculous contracts KW assumed in Rios and Peavy. If neither of these two players perform KW needs to go. So you mean like they did with Jose Contreras and Jim Thome. Neither one of those guys was getting paid "a couple of a million" when we traded for them.
kitekrazy
QUOTE (earthshiner @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 01:19 AM) I say trade ozzie for Gardenhire then... How long will it take for Sox fans to say, "he can't take the team to the next level?".
fathom
According to Ozzie, Rios won't be put 2nd in the order cause he hasn't bunted enough in his career. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,3381064.story

Neither one of those guys was getting paid "a couple of a million" when we traded for them. Except that cash obligations to Thome and Contreras were about $75 million less than those to Rios and Peavy.

greg775
Didn't Beckham get off to a great start the first handful of games? Joe Torre once said when players are struggling, their confidence is shot and they can't buy a hit. When they are going great, after a certain period of time then get too anxious in the box and finally redevelop bad habits. The key is maintaining an even keel and many can't do it. That' why you fail 7 of 10 at bats and are still a good hitter if you do so.

That' why you fail 7 of 10 at bats and are still a good hitter if you do so. I'm going to wait a while longer. But at some point you might have to come to the realization that he might not be as good as we had originally thought. He was supposed to be as rock-solid a prospect as we've had since Hurt. It's not like Beckham is the only highly regarded prospect that's been up and down (more down) initially. Guys like Matt Wieters and Justin Smoak have certainly had their struggles. Then guys like Posey, Heyward and McCutchen hit the bigs and kick ass right away and never stop. Patient at the plate, looking for his pitches, and then punishing those pitches. Wouldn't surprise me if he was a top 5 catcher this year. Real
Rios has a shoulder injury btw, Rongey mentioned it a couple days ago, he's trying to play through it. I don't think he said exactly what kind of injury it was, just said shoulder
southsideirish71
Nothing is wrong. Nothing to see. Facing all-star pitching every night, and of course it's cold. And uh the team is pressing. We have plenty of time, insert excuse here. f*** it.

I don't think he said exactly what kind of injury it was, just said shoulder Really, because the reports have been his toe has been bothering him and has been a problem for 4 or 5 years. If he's beat up enough where he can't perform, its time to DL him.
