southsider2k5
http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...car-tissue.html Mark Teahen played third base in place of rookie Brent Morel for the second night in a row, but only to give Morel a mental-health day. ‘‘Morel is my third baseman,’’ Guillen said. The Ginger Kid
How does compromising defense when you're team is struggling to score runs make sense? I don't like this, I want Morel out there. If the rest of these veterans weren't struggling then he would be and no one would be holding it against him. He wouldn't need a "mental day off" which sounds like a lame excuse to find more offense from that position.

The Ginger Kid
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 11:50 AM) Morel hasn't been stellar on D yet eitehr. but he's better than teahen and he's got more talent. I think you need to let him ride this out.

He made a great play last night. it's just a waiting game - you know he's going to screw up and he's going to do it when they can least afford it. He is not a good 3b. You know this. Milkman delivers
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 02:02 PM) it's just a waiting game - you know he's going to screw up and he's going to do it when they can least afford it. He is not a good 3b. You know this. They're in a seven-game losing streak. I wouldn't mind if brought Greg Norton back and put him there for a game. You have to do something different to attempt to get things back on track.
BigSqwert
Ozzie stressing defense is the biggest myth. (see: 2006 decision to use Mackowiak over Anderson in CF) Edited April 21, 2011 by BigSqwert
elrockinMT
Morel has great upside, but Teahan is not a dud at 3B. I don't think he actually has all that much experience at 3B either as he did play the OF even for the Royals.

Chisoxfn
I think giving a rookie off for a mental break makes a lot of sense.
hawksox13
I actually think it's downright scary that Ozzie feels Morel needs three games off for a mental health break when they are only 18 games into the season. Doesn't lead me to believe he has a lot of mental toughness and may hold onto his mistakes too long, or carry his mistakes in the field up to the plate or the other way around. Me too, especially with all these righties we've faced. Don't be shocked if he sits tomorrow as well against Verlander. Jason, in an effort to get more offense, do you think the Sox would consider calling up Viciedo anytime soon? That seems like the type of move we've made the last few years. hawksox13
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 03:03 PM) Or maybe he learned something last year with Beckham? That may be giving Ozzie too much credit. He sure hasn't learned that bunting a man over to set up a man on second with one out situation NEVER works for the White Sox. Why when a team is struggling to hit the ball so badly you give away one of your three remaining outs while trailing is still beyond me. Dayan needs to get his bat going in the minors before we make that kind of call imo.
