TheChrisSamsa
The White Sox are getting more smiles, and lots of extra-base hits, from Quentin because finally, at age 28, he has taken steps to not be so hard on himself, to control his anger even after an 0-for-4 game. It's a condition that has been so acute at times during his major league career, Quentin has had trouble sleeping at night, and hasn't eaten properly -- he'd often skip lunch and go straight to the park. He is a Stanford graduate, deeply intelligent, so it occurred to him: "If there is no joy and no fun in this game,'' he said, "why am I doing this?'' A terrible stretch at the plate, or a losing streak by his team, would affect Quentin physically. "My stomach … it felt like my insides were going to fall out all over the place,'' he said. "I was sick to my stomach. It is so easy to enjoy the good times when you and the team are doing well. You can enjoy life, separate it from baseball. To still enjoy life when you are not at your best -- to address that -- is what mental toughness is all about.'' So Quentin saw a psychiatrist, Dr. Leslie Sherlin from Santa Barbara, Calif., last winter for help, as Quentin says, "to try to live a life besides this game.'' He tried that in spring training 2010, one teammate said, "but after three weeks, he was back to beating himself up over every out he made.'' But this season, it seems to be different, it seems to be better. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...&id=6436161

Milkman delivers
It's good to know that Quentin takes it as badly as a lot of us on the board when things aren't going so well with the team.

As badly? I don't think any of us has slammed our wrist against a bat after fouling a ball off. Well at least I haven't. I HAVE thrown a bowl of popcorn against the wall though (thanks Thornton). I think you'd be surprised. Not punching a bat but the amount of holes punched in walls around here because of the Sox is probably quite high. The thrown remote incident after the Twins sweep in 2008 has made my fiance's "do not mention" list.
cws0591
I was going to say, I do not punch things when i get mad but i have a couple friends that have "call of duty" holes in their basement walls lol. It happens. But no I have no problem with caring, I just think TCQ needs to simmer. Also i have a feeling that these past couple series have created holes in walls . Just wait until he's older...he'll know to appreciate the game and won't get as mad The angriest I've ever been watching the Sox was when Jenks blew a save against the Indians in 2005 after Aaron Boone singled up the middle against him in the 8th. Haha, nicely played. The angriest I've ever been was when Jenks blew the save in the World Series. I kicked a pretty heavy coffee table across the room. It very easily could have broken my foot, so I was lucky. I was in college at the time and nobody else was a Sox fan. The room was awkwardly quiet until Pods won it

Rowand44
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 28, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) Opening day 2004 in KC, punched a hole in a closet door in my college apartment. Hole in the wall, broken smoke detector and broken shower head for me that day. Once I "calmed down" a bit and realized what I did, I made sure to get out of my moms house and head over to my dads pretty quick ha. I'm pretty sure Steve saw the damage in my college apartment, though those were mostly from SIU basketball games, but same deal.
IlliniKrush
Wait...broken shower head? Angry shower immediately afterward to wash away the Sox loss and filth of Billy Koch? Or...? You were also like 12 at that point. Geez.
