Marty34
Love this board and I take no pleasure in being right predicting this as a mediocre team (at best) during this offseason, but what were optimists thinking?

How did you know? I fell for the hype after signing of Dunn and Crain. Team is really really putrid.

greg775
But Marty, you didn't think the starting pitching would be great? "On paper" it again looked dominant. And the addition of Crain gave the Sox "on paper" a damn good bullpen. And adding Dunn gave the Sox a ton of pop in the lineup. Add to that Morel looking great at the end of the year and an emerging young combo of Beckham and Alexei, how did you know this team would suck?? Knackattack
Some of us guessed that this team would be good, some of us guessed that it would be bad, that is the beauty of sports, whoever guesses right gets to pretend that they are some sort of sports psychic and brag while things go their way. Now, it's usually best to wait until the end of the season to be a prick, but I guess some of us are jumping the gun.

Leonard Zelig
The White Sox are 1 game worse than they were at this point last year and that team won 88 games. This season is not over.
SoxPride56
When will Ozzie be fired? Or won't he? Honest question.
JohnCangelosi
QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ Apr 30, 2011 -> 01:25 AM) When will Ozzie be fired? Or won't he? Honest question. He won't be fired this year or even 2012 no matter what our record is. I think JR still regrets the letting go of LaRussa and holds Ozzie in high regard just as he does with LaRussa. The bottom line, however, is it appears Ozzie can't get his guys to play hard everyday for him and his decision making is suspect at best. I'd really like to see Walker fired NOW and get another guy who can work with Rios and Beckham as if those guys aren't hitting we don't stand a chance and it's quite obvious now Walk isn't delivering the goods on either of those key players for us. Dick Allen
If the season is over in Chicago, its also over in Minneapolis. Of course everyone would have preferred the Sox actually win some games in April, but the season is not lost yet. Its way too early for that. It does suck that you wait a long cold snowy winter for baseball and the team you follow falls on its face before it gets warm, but, and I am a guy who isn't always optimistic, I really think the Sox are the class of their division. A few tweaks is all it takes IMO. One may be Pierre. If he can't steal bases, he really shouldn't be in the major leagues.
Texsox
This would be the greatest comeback of all time if they can come from 8 games back in only 5 months! It would be epic. Even Yankee fans would be talking about the 2011 Sox who came from that far back with only 135 games to go.

Lol@you take no pleasure. That's exactly what you're doing. The "optimists" had every right to think this would be a good team. And it still very well could be. But they do have to get this s*** turned around and like fast. Otherwise will need a Rockies-like second half run to get back in this thing. Texsox
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Apr 30, 2011 -> 07:20 AM) I like this one Thank you. The Sox will need to make up a game every two and a half weeks to catch 1st. I just don't see how they can keep up that blistering pace.

You were not right...............They are not mediocre. They are downright ugly..............right now. If they come back I hope you remember this I told ya so. I know you are a Sox fan and Sox fans ( most ) are realistic, but it is too early to gloat. You can not read a eulogy yet. The body may still have life in it. GO SOX! Texsox
Gee Marty there was an entire thread to predictions http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=80585 I don't see yours there? scenario
Simple forecasting strategy... Predict Doom & Gloom... When the team is losing, you can gloat and post "I told you so" threads... When the team is winning, point out negatives while claiming you're just trying to provide objectivity and balance out all the kool-aid drinking optimists. Brilliant. Marty34
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 29, 2011 -> 11:51 PM) But Marty, you didn't think the starting pitching would be great? "On paper" it again looked dominant If Peavy wasn't going to be the top of the rotation starter he was acquired to be, I never thought they'd be World Series contenders. Not only hasn't he he been that top of rotation starter, he had a major injury. Yet the optimism was overflowing this winter.
