True, we can't just take the government's word for it.

Checks and balances are needed.

How many political scandals in Illinois alone have we seen?

I'm confident he's dead but cmon. World deserves proof.

GMAFB. There is no proof that will silence nut job conspiracy theorists. Just look at the Obama birth certificate story as the perfect example. There are people out there saying it was photoshopped and it's a fake.

They'd say the same about a photo of Bin Laden.

This is bin Laden’s lamentable victory: He has changed America’s psyche from one that saw violence as a regrettable-if-sometimes-necessary act into one that finds orgasmic euphoria in news of bloodshed. In other words, he’s helped drag us down into his sick nihilism by making us like too many other bellicose societies in history -- the ones that aggressively cheer on killing, as long as it is the Bad Guy that is being killed.

I don't know about all this.

Orgasmic euphoria is a bit much.

Yes people celebrated in the streets, but like some of you said not all the celebrators were doing

so for this reason. A lot just wanted to party and get laid.

I don't think Bin Laden has the ultimate victory like that writer said. So we were happy.

WTF? Let us be happy.

As far as the picture or body viewing of Bin Laden ...

You trust government? They should at least have some sort of panel observe the body. Like officials from all over the world or an independent expert.

What are you even talking about? A panel? A panel of what? They had a DNA specialist confirm the identity. Did you think Joe Biden conducted the DNA testing?

Sure, because if the Prince of Belguim says so, everyone will be convinced.

There's a difference between a healthy skepticism of government and Oliver Stone-like paranoia.

Well I guess like anything else there's going to be arguments. Should we celebrate? Shouldn't we? Who gets credit? Who doesn't? Display the body? Bury the body? Bury at sea? pfft...I don't really care about any of it. I'm glad he's dead. I didn't cheer, but I'm not bothered by those he did. Different strokes for different folks.

What we should all agree on though...is the Navy SEALS are the most bad ass heroic individuals on the planet!!!

extraordinarily satisfied and happy with this obviously....but im gonna drop in my 2cents about the celebration thing and then (hopefully) not say another word about it

Like I said, I'm very happy about this. An unreal amount of internal satisfaction, pride for our country, for our troops, and a sense of certainty that justice has finally come. I was a bit surprised at some (not all) of the celebration last night, not because people were celebrating a man's death (I am unbelievably happy he is dead) but more the manner in which people went about it.

As I watched last night, there were people simply going crazy, as if they were at college game day and the camera panned over them. It looked as if they were going crazy, and gettin drunk simply for the purpose of going crazy in getting drunk. It was like they had an excuse to go nuts and looked for a camera to get their faces on. These people, I don't believe, must have truly understood the emotions of 9-11. 9-11 strikes an emotion truly deep inside. When I found out he was dead, I shed a tear. I thought about all those emotions from that day, my friends in Afghanistan defending our country, my family members who have served our country. It was the same sort of joy you get watching a family member get married, or seeing a veteran get honored at a football game. Quite different some of the people I saw who were acting like they just caught some Mardi Gras beads

I know people celebrate differently, but you can't tell me that the people you see between 30-35 seconds in the video below aren't acting like ass clowns who don't truly get this thing.

Roll tide? are you kidding me?

It appeared to me that the majority of people who celebrated understood this, and I didnt mind their celebration. But there were certainly a select few idiots who are, and always will be idiots.

People may rip me for this post, but thats fine. I'll continue to wear my USA hat today with pride and celebrate appropriately with those who truly remember what it was like almost 10 years ago

I believe he's dead. I do believe.

I'm just saying I don't think it's healthy to blindly trust government.

Various other Special Forces groups would disagree! They are all half-joking with each other over who really did this, even if Seal Team Six is the one who always gets the credit.

Anyone think we'll ever hear the person who actually pulled the trigger speak?

From what i've read they are top secret and even if they could they wouldn't.

OK. I think I'm wrong on this one. If the DNA expert is reliable and the world agrees that person is reliable, then that's good enough.

What are they going to do with the body though? Return it to his family?

I'm assuming someone will get the MoH (or some other really high commendation) for this, whether it's the actual guy who pulled the trigger...

BTW reports are that he was double-tapped in the head, I've no doubts that this was a straight-up assassination mission.

He's been dumped in the Persian Gulf buried at sea already. Saudi didn't want his body and his family disowned him decades ago.
