Cost Per Win

Got bored watching the game today, so I figured I'd go through and calculate exactly how much money we're wasting this season. If the season ended with the standings as they are now, this is a breakdown of how much each team payed per win. I realize that they haven't paid out the the entire year yet, but if you do extra math to factor in the fraction of the year played and run it that way, you'll still get the same order. Math works that way and if you don't believe me, try it. At least we're getting a slightly better deal than the Yankees...

Royals $2,257,900.0

Indians $2,459,443.4

Rays $2,620,760.7

Marlins $3,163,555.6

Blue Jays $4,809,061.5

Reds $5,078,757.7

Yeah, but the Yankees have roughly 2.5X our revenue stream to support that payroll.

We will end up paring $40-50 million from our payroll if things continue like this. The Yankees would be adding players in our situation. There's simply zero tolerance over there for not at least making the playoffs, let alone winning the World Series each season.

I think your off by a factor of at least 4. The YES Network alone generates enough to cover the stupid baseball team.

They could field a $200M team every year, be in dead last, and still be well in the black.
