•Diamondbacks right-hander Daniel Hudson was part of the ill-fated trade between the Padres and White Sox in May 2009 that was vetoed by Jake Peavy, according to Dan Hayes of the North County Times (via Twitter). Peavy later accepted a trade to the South Siders at that season's deadline, but that package did not include Hudson. Instead, Clayton Richard, Aaron Poreda, Dexter Carter and Adam Russell went to the Friars. Hudson was later dealt to Arizona at the 2010 trade deadline in exchange for Edwin Jackson.

Just when we thought it was a salary dump alone (with a serviceable Richard heading to the NL West), we apparently almost gave up our best pitching prospect as well.

Nice.

Even if it was Hudson alone, it would have been way too much with Peavy's contract.

This has been known.

EDIT: And for the record, Huddy was far from our best prospect at the time when the original deal went down. That's why KW changed it up the 2nd time around and literally gave up nothing to get Jake.

why the fascination with how guys the Sox traded are doing, especially when they are doing well? They are in completely different situations and success in Oakland, Arizona, or wherever doesn't mean they would be successes in Chicago. Look no further than Swisher as an example. All I can say is good for them. Are the Phillies dumb for trading Gio back to Chicago? Some guys go on to be successful, it seems most don't.

Hudson pitches tonight (Sat). Gio won last night. Looks like Sweeney getting back in A's lineup.

Hard to do with Willingham, Crisp ensconced in CF and DeJesus.

That's why he still has less than 40 AB's this season.

They have the DH spot too. I'd say they could rotate guys.

Sweeney is definitely in a hitting class with DeJesus, in my opinion.

Except DeJesus just hit two homers in one game to single-handedly win it for the A's last week against CLE.

Even when Sweeney goes 5/6, his team loses, largely because they're all singles.

His only 2 HRs of the year while batting .232.

He averages just over 7 a year. Not that huge of an upgrade from Sweeney's play.

His defensive range is excellent, though.
