macsandz
So our fearless leader once again gave away an out by calling for a stupid sac bunt again tonight that killed an inning. Ozzie leads all AL managers in calling for both sac bunts and int walks. This is LOSING baseball. The three teams in MLB that have sac bunted the least? 1st place Indians 1st place Red Sox 1st place Diamondbacks Idiot.
BearSox
It's not old school, it's just plain old dumb baseball by Ozzie.
Cali
Also doesnt help that no one on the team can actually bunt... Makes it even dumber to call for them ever
greg775
You guys that hate the bunt kind of slay me. You can't reinvent the game of baseball as much as you may want to. The bunt is called for in many many instances, it's just that the Sox can't bunt and never have been able to bunt since the 60s.

BearSox
Anyone with any idea of baseball knows that bunting there was a stupid call. Lester just walked two in a row, and started morel off 2 and 0. There is no reason for any manager to keep the bunt sign on there, especially with Juan on deck. Ozzie got really lucky he didn't cost us this game, even though he tried. If we could get clutch hits you guys wouldn't mind the bunt as much (when the bunt does work n advances runners).
ChiliIrishHammock24
No one who doesn't have "Pierre" or "Vizquel" on the back of his jersey should ever be bunting on this team. They are the only ones who may actually lay down a good bunt, and it could actually result in a basehit with good enough placement. Everyone else has the ability to drive the ball in to the gaps. JohnCangelosi
Not to mention his old school style still thinks we need slap hitting Pierre in there instead of Dayan, who is clearly the better option its not even funny. The management of KW and Ozzie to not see this glaring issue is beyond me. Shame on KW for not standing up to Ozzie regarding this issue, he HAS TO know that Pierre is garbage and isn't doing a thing to help this team win. Could we really be the only ones to see this? Thats why you're a fan and KW is in the front office.. Pierre isn't garbage, but, that doesnt change the fact that Dayan should be up here.. either way, Juan isn't hurting the team

Every single standard stat or advanced metric you can come up with says otherwise. Replace Juan Pierre with Dayan and you lose absolutely nothing. Texsox
Why bunt when you high a potent, high average, offense? We're f***ed either way.
CaliSoxFanViaSWside
QUOTE (Tex @ May 31, 2011 -> 03:42 AM) Why bunt when you high a potent, high average, offense? We're f***ed either way. I understand what you mean but Lester was on the ropes. It was the 4th inning against a hot hitting team. Lester walks 2 guys and Morel is in a hitters count and has shown some signs of life in May. Lester is LH Morel is right handed. I know Ozzie wanted to try to avoid the DP and Pierre has been hitting around .340 in his last 12 games but would have needed a hit to score a run there since it's unlikely he hits a sac fly. Peavy and the extra runs we got later made the call for the bunt there not look as bad as it was at the time. If it's the 8th or 9th I'm not as upset as I was at the time. hogan873
Aside from the bad bunting this team executes, even when a bunt works they still can't get the runs in. How many times have we seen a runner of second or third with 1 or 0 outs and get no runs? Way too often. So, even when Pierre gets a bunt down and moves a guy to second or third, that runner seems to die on the basepads anyway. Not sure what my point is except that the bunt means nothing if the timely hitting isn't there.
