danman31
QUOTE (OilCan @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 04:17 PM) Bristol White Sox's roster hasn't been updated all that much. Can't tell who else the team has signed, they have some players from last years' squad playing there again. It's up now.
LayelBurton
Add Round 45: Cory Farris, OF, 21, 6-0, 205, Cumberland University (Florence, Ky.) to the list. No article that I found, but he is assigned to Bristol. Listed as a Catcher?

No article that I found, but he is assigned to Bristol. Listed as a Catcher? Got it. I also saw Chase in Bristol on the restricted list. What would that mean exactly? [email protected]
"Players who fail to report to the team or who fail to sign an agreed-upon contract with the team. Players on this list do not count towards the Reserved List (40 man) or Active List (25 man) limits. Players on the restricted list do not receive pay, and may not sign with another team. A player may remain on this list for two consecutive years before he is removed -either activated or released. Often, placing a player on the Restricted List is akin to releasing him without fully relinquishing his rights." JPN366
I've been trying to contact Bren to find out what's going on with Chase, but she hasn't responded.

JPN366
I guess something went sideways, because Bren hasn't been here in two weeks. She would've been here posting everyday if everything was okay.

JPN366
Usually Baseball America has a blurb about players placed on the restricted list in the weekly minor league transactions.

JPN366
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 10:48 AM) Yeah, that is kind of where I was going with that. But, I'd think Bren would at least get on here and tell us why or just tell us something. I'm concerned now that it's something bad. It's out of character for her to be so silent. NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 03:50 PM) Well, right now...employers aren't happy about any gaps in anyone's resume..."2 years off to play baseball" might really hurt a person's chances at a different career. Just the reality of 9% unemployment America. I don't know about that. I think a 25 year old who spent a few years trying to play ball, and a 22 year old with the same degree/school/grades, are either on a level field or maybe slightly favoring the ballplayer. The ballplayer has a few more years' adult experience, and in some cases, that ballplaying on the resume is actually an appeal. Heck, at the trading firm I worked at previously, there was a trader who was a former 4th rd pick of the Yankees. The only disadvantage, really, is that the person making that decision is essentially starting their "real" career a few years late, earnings gains and all, if they don't make it. JPN366
Chase has been removed from the Bristol roster. Nothing about it on the league transactions page. I wouldn't consider playing pro ball a gap in employment. He is/was an employee of the White Sox. Bren did say he worked during the offseason. OilCan
I guess at this point, the majority of the remaining unsigned players will probably decide closer to Mid/End of July, seeing that Bristol and GF's rosters are set. Right?
danman31
The picks that were still playing college ball after the draft (the 3 Cal guys and the UVA pitcher are still playing now) will probably take a week or 2 off and then join the rookie ball teams. There were quite a few on that list. Others will probably go later into the signing deadline though, yes.
LayelBurton
Tim Kiley Agrees To Contract With Chicago White Sox http://tampaspartans.com/article.asp?articleID=2942 University of Tampa pitcher Tim Kiley has agreed to a minor league free agent deal with the Chicago White Sox, and will report to the organization on Tuesday. Kiley recently completed his junior season with Tampa, where the relief pitcher was a second-team all-Sunshine State Conference selection. He concluded the season with a 4-1 record and led all Spartans with seven saves. In 36.0 innings in 2011, Kiley struck out 22 batters and notched a 2.75 ERA. Opposing batters hit at a .221 clip versus the 6-foot-7-inche right-hander. Prior to redshirting for UT in 2010, Kiley spent two seasons at Florida Gulf Coast University, where he made a total of 12 appearances for the Eagles. The Palm Harbor, Fla., resident attended Palm Harbor University High School prior to enrolling at FGCU. Kiley becomes the seventh member of the 2011 Spartans to earn MLB attentions, as five Spartans were also chosen in the MLB Draft. Patrick Donahue also agreed to a free agent deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
oldsox
Could not help but notice that our 36 round pick from Virginia is the guy who made two fielding errors yesterday. Cody Winiarski. Hope he and the three guys from Cal sign quickly.
