Bob Geren = He gone!

Bob Melvin to take over for the rest of the season. I hope that doesn't spark the A's this weekend to turn around their losing streak.

Damn. Couldn't they have waited until after this weekend?

Wait a minute...You mean a manager was held accountable for the poor performance of a team that was expected to contend?

The A's were expected to contend? Really?

with the reigning AL champions and the Angels in their division, I really expected them to be right where they are. And when you look at their SP injuries, its really not in the cards for the A's this year, or any year in the near future if you ask me.

whats the point of firing managers in Oakland? They are all going to be given bargain bin teams with decent to good pitching that will never stay past arbitration. Until a real owner steps up and invests in the team, you might as well keep the same manager around

They added Matsui, Willingham, DeJesus, Balfour and Fuentes. They had the best ERA in the AL last year, IIRC. They were looked at as a sleeper by most everybody.

Yeah, but that best ERA got them an 81-81 record, and Matsui has been on the decline for a few years now. Plus, pitching has never been an issue with them, it has been an offensively challenged bunch for a while. Willingham and Matsui werent going to come in and light the world on fire, and they certainly werent going to challenge the Rangers for the best offense in the division.

Billy ball has failed for another year, and another manager bites the dust because of it

Of course they weren't going to challenge the Rangers for best offense. But going into the season, who was projected to have the better SP? Ogando has been a godsend for them. But after losing Lee, it was believed that the division was up for grabs. Either way, they've totally regressed from last year.

Well what do you call a team that isn't exactly favored to do anything but has the potential by most to be good?

Do you really not see how your statement made no sense and was self-conflicted? You said they looked like a sleeper by "most everybody". Thus, they would not be a sleeper. Its like saying most people picked them as an underdog - if that's true, they aren't an underdog, by definition.

I can see how that could be misconstrued. But I think ultimately it was rather clear what I was getting at.

Colorado Rockies closer Huston Street, a former Athletic, decided to pile it on by telling the media, “For me personally, he was my least favorite person I have ever encountered in sports from age 6 to 27. I am very thankful to be in a place where I can trust my manager (Jim Tracy)."

And gee, the "under-achieving" Marlins fired their hitting coach. You mean to tell me when a team doesn't hit up to expectations they fire the hitting coach? Get outta town!
