Jimmy John's selling $1 sandwiches Thursday

Posted by Phil Vettel

We at the Stew will do whatever it takes to run down a good story. Even if it means opening our own newspaper.

Yep, there it is in today's Trib: A full-page ad announcing that from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, Chicago-area Jimmy John's locations will be offering 8-inch sandwiches for $1. (They're usually $5.)

The fine print: Offer applies to sandwiches 1 through 6. Limit one sandwich per person. Good for in-store purchase only.

Something tells us the Jimmy John's lines are going to be freaky long tomorrow.

Damn, I wish I was still in Urbana. A lot less people there right now for summer school and two Jimmy Johns close by.

JJ's the best super late night food.

That's an argument waiting to happen. But it's false. Mexican food trumps all for late night.

Can of worms, opened.

Tacos, Gyros, Pizza, straight up breakfast are all in contention.

Big Star tacos. win. Also a good burger if you can find it. But yeah, greektown used to be my go-to but now it's too far.

Burritoville, Jimmy Johns, Pizza Villa... all were part of the NIU rotation. The best was Burritoville.

I love, love, love the Bootlegger w/ cheese at Jimmy John's though. I attempted to make love to it once, but it was pretty messy.

How many Mexican places are open at 2 in the morning?

I'd take Chipotle or Qdoba over JJ everyday, but they're not options most of the time.
