I checked out TBD's for the first time after the Sox/As game on Thurs night. We went over there right away to catch Game 5 of the Heat/Mavs game is did most of the people who came out to another stellar 48 degree June Day. I thought the bar was great, awesome layout, good atmoshpere, of course overpriced beers ($6 for a miller lite can). Question is what are they building just to the east of the bar and the gate 5 area. That area is always under some sort of construction and its continues to this day, but what are they building now?

All of the large signs says "New Sox Team Store: Coming Soon". So I imagine it's some kind of apparel store?

White Sox and Sportservice to Open New Team Store at U.S. Cellular Field

Store Will Be One of the Largest of Its Kind Featuring Two Levels and 13,000 Square Feet of Shopping; Fans will have Opportunity to Suggest the Official Name of the Team Store

CHICAGO - The Chicago White Sox and Delaware North Companies Sportservice will open a new two-level, 13,000-square-foot flagship team store at U.S. Cellular Field. The new store will be one of the largest of its kind and feature a wide variety of White Sox merchandise along with other Chicago-area professional and collegiate teams.

"We are committed to providing White Sox fans the very best experience in all of sports," said White Sox senior vice president of sales and marketing Brooks Boyer. "The team store is yet another showpiece amenity that we are proud to give Sox fans, and we hope it will become the preeminent sports retail destination for fans of all teams in the city of Chicago."

The interior of the store will feature large-scale, dynamic graphics on each level, as well as memorabilia cases highlighting the passion, pride and tradition of White Sox baseball. The signature element of the new store will be a digital staircase, which will showcase images as customers move to and from the second level. In addition to in-store exclusives on White Sox merchandise, the new team store also will feature the most popular Chicagoland NBA, NFL, NHL and college merchandise.

"As a proud partner of the White Sox for 65 years, Sportservice is thrilled to be bringing the best in cutting-edge retail technology and design to White Sox fans," said Rick Abramson, president of Sportservice, which operates food and retail services at U.S. Cellular Field. "I am confident that this will be one of the premier retail experiences for fans in all of sports."

The White Sox also will give fans the opportunity to suggest the store's name. Fans may submit potential names for the store on whitesox.com. If a fan submission is selected, that fan will be first to enter the new store and receive a $500 shopping spree.

"This store, together with the newly opened Bacardi at the Park, provides sports fans with excitement outside the ballpark, as well as within. The new store will be the class of the sports souvenir world - part of the new 35th Street experience," said James R. Thompson, chairman of the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority.

The White Sox, Sportservice and Chicago-based architect RGLA are targeting the fall of 2011 for the store's grand opening. It will be located just east of Gate 5 of U.S. Cellular Field, adjacent to the ballpark's new bar/restaurant Bacardi at the Park, near 35th Street and Wentworth Avenue. The new store will be open year round.
