Septimo, 25, was 2-1 with a 6.37 ERA (21 ER/29.2 IP) and 22 strikeouts in 21 relief appearances with Class AA Mobile in 2011. He also limited opponents to a .202 (20-99) average, including a .186 (13-70) mark by righties. The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder went 6-8 with a 5.79 ERA (111 ER/172.2 IP), 14 saves and 192 strikeouts in 135 relief appearances over four minor-league seasons in the Diamondbacks farm system (2008-11). Septimo, who was originally signed as a free agent on February 19, 2003, was selected to participate in the 2009 All-Star Futures Game and named to the 2010 midseason Southern League All-Star Team. They have usually produced good results, when they've had some actual talent to work with, like in 2009. With Santos Rodriguez and this dude, hopefully one of them can break through. Heck, maybe they should just bring him to Chicago and have him observe Buehrle, Danks, Thornton and Sale for a couple of weeks, sort of an "internship," so to speak.
