elrockinMT
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 09:46 PM) Dude's taken 2 fewer walks than he did all of last year. He had a patient year in 2009 but the average was down a bit so that kept his OBP at .333. He keeps hitting .290ish, he's giving you that .350+ OBP. He could be a leadoff option. I also noted that when Lilli led off last Saturday he took two walks. You need the lead off batter to get on for sure.
NorthSideSox72
Lexi, 6 Beckham, 4 TCQ, 9 PK, 3 Dunn, 0 Viciedo, 7 Rios, 8 AJP, 2 Morel, 5 That would be my preference for a starting lineup at this point. I think Beckham might benefit from hitting 2nd. Pierre DFA, Lilli stays on the bench with Vizquel, Castro and Teahen.
RockRaines
Ugh, why bat Beckham 2nd? He's not much better than Juan Pierre.
Balta1701
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 05:43 PM) Ugh, why bat Beckham 2nd? He's not much better than Juan Pierre. If the guy in the 2 hole is supposed to be the guy who gets extra fastballs...putting Beckham there is a bad idea, because Beckham is failing against fastballs right now. NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 04:43 PM) Ugh, why bat Beckham 2nd? He's not much better than Juan Pierre. First, he's definitely better even now. Second, they area going in opposite directions career-wise, IMO. Pierre has seen his peak and is falling. Beckham, my read, is that he will get a lot better. And putting him in a place where the pressure is more about contact and less about power would benefit him by quieting his swing a bit. NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 04:44 PM) If the guy in the 2 hole is supposed to be the guy who gets extra fastballs...putting Beckham there is a bad idea, because Beckham is failing against fastballs right now. He's behind the heat because he's loading too much, and I think he does that less when he's focusing on contact. I doubt everyone will agree, but that's my opinoin on him right now. He should bat 8th or 9th, no higher. Putting a s***ty hitter up in the order in the hopes that makes him better is not exceptionally smart. Beckham's swing is a complete mess and the guy cant catch up to a fastball.
NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 04:56 PM) Have you checked out Gordon's numbers lately? He should bat 8th or 9th, no higher. Putting a struggling batter 2nd "in the hopes it makes him better" can be smart, or stupid, depending on the situation. My personal view is, with his specific problems, it would benefit him. ottawa_sox
I would tend to make the 44 year old phenom the 2nd place hitter as much as his body will allow. He is not only the best option for hitting 2nd by far, it could be that Beckham might pick up on how it's done. At minimum, get him into 1/2 of the games. justBLAZE
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 08:21 AM) I assumed he meant just for Rios and Lillibridge to platoon in CF and leadoff. In which case, you would ask how would you platoon 2 right handed hitters. Well as far as this year... Lillibridge vs RHP: .280/.393/.560/.953 179 OPS+ Rios vs LHP: .266/.284/.344/.627 70 OPS+ (ya well he's much worse vs RHP) Of course we know Ozzie isn't a "stats guy" per se (nor would you platoon Rios, which is is very economically bad from the investment). But I'm sure we all know Viciedo should not be platooned. This exactly.
CaliSoxFanViaSWside
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 12:00 PM) You're going to call me crazy and I would too. Viciedo. I'm surprised you didn't think it should be Morel batting 2nd. He's the one guy who seems to consistently hit it to the right side though not a high OBP guy. Balta1701
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:29 AM) I'm surprised you didn't think it should be Morel batting 2nd. He's the one guy who seems to consistently hit it to the right side though not a high OBP guy. Right now, Brent still looks like a back of the lineup guy to me. He will hit the ball well, but he doesn't have a ton of power, he strikes out a fair amount, and doesn't walk much. His OBP in the minors is very batting average heavy, and he's still adjusting to the league. I like that he's going the other way with hits a lot, but it's about time to start seeing a little more extra base power from him, which hopefully we will see as the summer drags on. Since May 7, he's hitting .316, but he's only got a .333 OBP and .728 OPS over that stretch. He's getting better, but I think other guys would bring more production to that 2 spot. I'd try Becksy or even Rios there before Morel...they both ought to provide more power than him, if they ever pull out of slumps.

SoxFan562004
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 06:26 PM) That's acceptable, at least for the time being. I agree, in a perfect world not he best option, but Pierre being horrible brings so many options into play of what is better.

That's terrible news but expected. Guillen will not give up on Juan Pierre, so praying for an injury is the only option. That will never happen though. When is the last time he had a major injury? I will say this much, Viciedo and Quentin better be our corner OFs next year. If KW were to trade Quentin to open up LF for Juan Pierre or another slapster I will go f***ing crazy. Who do you blame more for this? Ozzie or KW? For me, as stupid as Ozzie is for still believing in Juan Pierre, who has clearly lost all ability to play baseball, this is on Kenny Williams. KW has to know that JP is worthless, he is not a dumb guy. However, I don't think he has the balls to do the right thing for fear of the consequences in terms of the relationship with Ozzie. One word: Pathetic.

Jerksticks
So in theory I want our highest OBP guy not named Konerko or TCQ batting leadoff, with our best fastball hitter (Bridge?) batting 2nd.
