It's possible they give him $2 million NOT to pitch for them next year and then offer him an incentive-laden contract.

Knowing Nathan, he might accept. I'm not sure how wise it would be for them to put all their eggs in the basket of just one potential closer without a back-up plan.

BTW, Mr. Capps just blew a 7-4 lead against the Brewers with the Crew now leading 8-7 after trailing 7-0 in the early stages of the game.

They're also going to have to decide what to do with Pavano again.

And how many Japanese players in the last 5-7 years that have been signed to MLB clubs have actually exceeded expectations?

Not many.

2 Ichiro and Nomo. Sasaki was good for a few years in Seattle but he was old when he came over and didnt stay long.

Heck, how many have actually met expectations? Daisuke did for a short period of time, but he has really fallen off. Fukudome has been a massive disappointment, Iguchi really was good for the Sox for about a year and a half before he was traded then washed out of the league. A few relief pitchers have been good to decent, but it seems like maintaining any sort of long term consistency has been impossible.

Remember how Daisuke had a mysterious gyroball that defied physics? Right.....

Im not giving up on Nishioka yet. He only played a couple weeks worth of games, and the last few games he is stinging the ball, but right at the outfielders.

If the Twins get rid of both Nathan and Capps, they have a few guys in the minors could fill the closer role. Anthony Slama has been closing for Rochester the last few years. Gardy is pretty high on Carlos Gutierrez. He is a power sinker and wanted him with the big league club this year, but management overruled him. If they get rid of both closers this year, they could just slide someone over..Glen Perkins or someone. its not like the Twins are getting many save situations

Matsui

Good call, definitely missed him. Another guy who came to the Majors towards the end of his prime. And he missed a year with that broken forearm
