bigruss
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 02:59 PM) Well, if you want to say Peralta is overachieving, then I'd suggest that Raburn is underachieving and likely to improve as season goes on. No one talks about how ridiculous the Indians bullpen has been this year, and that's why they won so many games the first two months. Raburn just isn't that good of a player, think of Tyler Colvin, came up and hit well but is now pretty much the suckage people thought beforehand. I mean, he's already 30 years old. fathom
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 09:01 PM) We're that desperate for peanuts? Well, when Jeff Francis is supposed to be one of the biggest names on the market, I wouldn't be so quick to say Jackson couldn't get you anything. Balta1701
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 04:00 PM) It's all squarely on Peavy. He's the only one that can fix it. Really? What should he do at this point? Pitch through injuries? Not pitch through injuries? Retire?

bigruss
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:03 PM) Wasn't he pretty damn good last year? .815ish OPS, not that fantastic. I just never thought he had the talent.
Milkman delivers
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:03 PM) Really? What should he do at this point? Pitch through injuries? Not pitch through injuries? Retire? Not get injured? Not get injured constantly? Either of those work. So unless you want to blame God, all of this rests on Peavy and his body. chw42
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:04 PM) .815ish OPS, not that fantastic. I just never thought he had the talent. Raburn's a historically slow starter. Then he turns it on late in the year and rakes for a month or two.

No one talks about how ridiculous the Indians bullpen has been this year, and that's why they won so many games the first two months. Eh, there wasn't much of a need to focus on one aspect for that team. Everything was overachieving from the offense, to defense, to starting pitching, to bullpen. bigruss
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:06 PM) Raburn's a historically slow starter. Then he turns it on late in the year and rakes for a month or two. When he had his breakout year 2 years ago I remember him hitting like .330 the first half, then nothing the second half until the last few weeks or so. Balta1701
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 04:05 PM) Not get injured? Not get injured constantly? Either of those work. So unless you want to blame God, all of this rests on Peavy and his body. So, either you're blaming Jake Peavy for not sitting down and having a good talking to his body (my knees, for example, might just be learning their lesson now!) or you're just angry at a guy for things he can't control

Haha, what would it take you guys to get upset? I think fathom was right on about the Garland thing. If Jon Garland were on this team and continued to get hurt, everyone would hate him. But since it's Peavy and he makes scary faces when he pitches and frowns when things go badly, it's OK because he's trying!

So unless you want to blame God, all of this rests on Peavy and his body. You appear to think he has a choice in the matter. He does not. All he can do is try to pitch and keep himself in good pitching condition. He does that, but still gets hurt. So what can he do that he is actually capable of? Oh my, you're so cute trying so hard and being such a great teammate. I wish we had more guys like you, because we'd have a team full of winners and then there'd be no way we could ever lose again. It's just that can-do attitude that brings us all together and helps us play at nearly a .500 winning percentage. Golly, this guy is amazing. Garland was a solid middle of the rotation pitcher at his peak who got way to much crap from Sox fans. If Peavy is healthy he is a legitimate ace. The comparison of them is terrible. Cy Young was also a better pitcher than Jon Garland at one point. Was. Stop living in the past. Jake Peavy is a has-been that can't pitch a month without getting hurt. Garland at least gives you consistent, average innings.
