I bet they trade Stalberg. I don't think he really fits anywhere right now on this team.

Maybe some sorta package deal.

It depends. I'd really hoped they'd re-up Frolik quickly, but that's taking longer than expected.

Whats the deal with Kyle Beach, I've heard his name as a supposed stud prospect but still no chance to make the team?

Headcase. He hasn't shown enough in the AHL to warrant being called up. The Hawks have given him lots of opportunities but right now, he's closer to a Ben Eager type player than anything else. He hurt his own teammate in training camp last year. A lot of people saw him as a Byfuglien/Brouwer power forward replacement, but that doesn't look too likely at this point. He's still young enough to keep around though.

He's not ready. Takes too many shifts off a night, especially in his own zone. Still has some growing up to do, too. Rockford sure gives him a f***load of ice time though, and in all situations. They are sure trying to get everything out of him. But he ended the year poorly, Hawks brass weren't happy with what they saw late.

Yeah, clearly Versteeg is sticking everywhere he lands!

In all seriousness, come on yo, it was clearly a salary dump so getting "hosed" really doesn't count.

There's one thing to get a "salary dump" and still get good pieces for a solid, young, cup winning player (Buff/Eager trade was fantastic) and there's another to get what the Hawks got for Versteeg. (and to make it worse, Toronto turns around and deals him for a 1st and a 3rd rounder)

Byfuglien was, and should have been, much higher regarded than Versteeg. Getting rid of Steeger had to be done at any cost. I don't fault Bowman one bit for getting a shoddy, albeit cheap return for him.

And they had to cut dollars. They didn't have a choice. They couldn't shop around and wait for a good deal to come along. The cap mandated moves had to be made that didn't involve getting salary back.

Exactly.

I f***ing loathed Steeger when he was here anyway. I don't think there was a player those few seasons leading up to the Cup that I yelled at the TV more to just shoot the puck. He drove me batty.

What talent are you referring to you in regards to what you have seen from Stalberg? He's a relatively fast skater with very little hockey IQ that really brings no value to the club, especially when it looks like their should be some kids ready to step up and make this team.

He's Tony Salmelainen.

Relatively fast? Stalberg is probably the fastest skater on the team.

He does have some talent. You don't trade Versteeg for a guy who absolutely blows. Stalberg showed glimpses of his talent this year. Remember his SO game winner in Atlanta? Guys who are talentless don't make plays like that.

However, like you said, he has very little IQ. Therefore, he makes for a nice guy to trade at the deadline as another throw-in.

Steeger was the king of the extra-move-while-crossing-the-blue-line-resulting-in-an-offside as well.

On guys like Steeg, Eager, Niemi, Sopel, Burish etc. your right.. though I still think they could of kept Ladd.

How? The Hawks ended up still having to use the Rockford Shuttle to keep the payroll within 20,000 or so of the cap IIRC.

Love that Stalberg is back. One of my favorite players.

Stalberg was one of mine through November 15 last year. Then, he hit a wall. I think he can be a decent NHL player. However, his play after that date pissed me off enough where I sold my replica on eBay for only $80 and I paid $180 for it. The question is, what poor soul bought it? ;)

And paid him $4.2m/yr? Doubtful.

Well that was just a bad jersey choice from the get go. Eek.

Sources are saying that Frolik will indeed be at the Blackhawks convention this weekend, which is a good sign that a deal could be done.

EDIT: Done SOON, that is.

@bartic63 Pavel Barta

@Real_ESPNLeBrun Good luck Pierre. A scoop for you: Michael Frolik signed for 3yrs with Hawks for 6,9M. Just talked to his agent

2.3 mil cap hit.

EDIT: Just a rumor right now though.
