CSF
Edwin Rodriguez resigns ESPN.com news services Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez has resigned with the team mired in a nine-game losing streak. Rodriguez Marlins bench coach Brandon Hyde will replace Rodriguez for Sunday's game against the Rays, the team said in a news release. The Marlins were 1-17 in June entering the game at Tampa Bay and sat last in the NL East at 32-39, 12½ games behind the Phillies. Rodriguez became the first Puerto Rican manager in the major leagues when the Marlins made him interim manager last June, and the team went 46-46 the rest of the year. He then spent a month after the regular season in limbo before being named to the permanent job. The Marlins said then they had discussed several managerial candidates but they conducted no formal interviews. Rodriguez received only a one-year contract, but said at the time he figured he still got a good deal. "I'm very confident that our team, even though it's a very young team, we're going to be winning a lot of games," he said. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
