I think what people are referring to, J4L, is your tendency to use words like "rape" in your posts.

Seriously, do you need to constantly post things in such an increasingly dramatic and disturbing fashion?

No, I don't. And this goes back to my initial post in this thread (for today) that I think I grossly underestimated how sensitive some people are. If I see somebody post something like, "Damn, the White Sox lost 10-0. They got f***ing b****-slapped." I'm not going to think to myself that person is insulting any woman who's ever been a victim of domestic violence. I'm going to interpret it as, "Yeah, the White Sox most definitely got b****-slapped." From a sports point of view. But I will concede, and this is the only thing I will concede, that if I'm guilty of one thing it's that I don't always recognize that something that doesn't at all bother me doesn't mean it can't offend somebody else. So I'll try to clean that up.

I think most people are fine with this sort of rhetoric from time to time...but when it becomes a constant, and increasingly more perverse and lewd form of expression, it starts to weigh on people.

I applaud the effort of trying to clean it up. I'm the most cynical person I know, in regards to how I feel about people, but the White Sox are the one area of my life where I love and support unconditionally. Would I rather see Viciedo than Pierre? Of course, but I fully support Juan, Rios, Dunn, and everyone else while they're wearing our uniforms. It flabbergasts me that posters seem to hate the PEOPLE on our team, not just their performance. Being frustrated by poor play is one thing, but to hate someone because of struggling at baseball, ridiculous.

I frequented this site in 2003-2004, and the negativity and bulls*** got so great, that I didn't come back here until 3 months ago. And lately I've been really close to completely going away again. Not saying that as a

threat, because I'm not a big contributor by any means.

Living my whole life in the Pacific Northwest, I've never once personally known a single person who considers themselves a Sox fan, which is why I'm drawn to this site. And its a turnoff to see the only "Sox fans" I know, s***ting all over the team.

Here is the funny thing in this whole discussion... no one can nail down an exact definition of what people are referring to as that hyperbolic, hyper-negative post quality... and yet pretty much everyone would point to the same few posters as being just that.

I'm quite a few pages back, and perhaps it has since been answered, but this portion of NSS's post is golden.

If Jason and company are going to establish new rules concerning posting there should be clear guidelines detailing what's acceptable and what isn't. More than "hyperbole" or outlandish negativity.

Additionally, who exactly is enforcing these rules, just Jason; or all mods? Will each post that is questionable be put up for review?

Also, I'm trying to wrap my mind around this concept -- so there's a collection of 'quality' posters out in the nether regions of the internet lurking, and oh boy do they have some valuable insight to provide for fellow Soxtalk members. Yet, when these member log on all they notice is the negativity; and that just makes them sad. They don't appreciate such injustices. So in a silent protest (well, not really, because they made sure to tell the mods/admins of their intentions so everyone will miss them) they leave and now the world will never know what knowledge could have been shared with Soxtalk.

Am I the only person who finds it ridiculous someone is allowing another person indirectly to influence whether or not they post here?

I find that this is the best comparison.

The difficulty of defining obscenity was memorably summarized by Justice Stewart in a concurring opinion when he said: "I know it when I see it."

This entire organization is an unmitigated f***ing DISASTER. We are looking at YEARS of futility and mediocrity and if you think otherwise you're wiping kool-aid off your chin. This season was over the day they stepped off the plane in Cleveland.

I firmly believe that part is true if they maintain the same managerial team.

Most people dont actually hate the people on the team, they tend to hate that they are playing on the team.

And welcome to fandom, fans will never agree 100% with the way the team is being managed. It's damn common everywhere actually, Im sure you work for a company and see people being upset by higher ups, Im sure you know some politics and that people complain about who's in office.

People have opinions, and they share them on this board. It's not unique for fans to say overreactional statements when they see a team they love lose, especially when they were supposed to be so much better.

JimH sends his regards! :notworthy

LOL. He'd be the first to be suspended under these new guidelines.

Well, he'd first have to return from his current suspension; but then SSI would post and he'd lose his mind again.

Cmon guys we're all a family here. A dysfunctional one, for sure, but still a family. And yes, we have a few black sheep as well (J4L, Milkman, Greg, etc) but can't we all just get along?

I would have never in a million years thought that I'd be lumped in with Greg :lolhitting

because, you know, a 33 year old father of two is totally like that.

thats ok though, i think of him as a younger version of Carl from the movie Up, so we are even.

That's OK, now instead of a young asian girl, I think of you as Vanilla Ice.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 04:49 PM)
The problem with the White Sox and the cause for the hyperbole is simple.

The White Sox have won 3 games when trailing after 6 innings. This has been an issue since the beginning of last year.

Thus when the White Sox fall behind early there is pretty good chance the game is over. That is fact not hyperbole.

The ineptitude of Dunn, Rios and Pierre have driven fans to the edge. All had plenty of opportunities against the cubs to blow a game open and they failed.

This board is simply a reflection of the fans on the radio and at the park.

1.) That was a great post by Harry. My favorite White Sox teams have been the ones capable of coming from behind. Hopefully the second half the law of averages kicks in and the Sox have some comeback wins. Harry also mentioned the big three of Dunn, Rios and Pierre. Any discussion concerning any of those three guys will result is something unpretty. And any thread titled, "Hudson just violated Kenny" has trouble written all over it.

2.) I hate the 'R' word and the other 'R' word. Just seeing them kind of sicken me and make me feel bad about society.

3.) I hate the word hyperbole. I think it stems from high school. I never understood it from my English teacher at Brother Rice then, Mr. Perry, and don't understand it now.

I'll use an example from your neck of the woods.

Before he won the national championship, "Bill Self is the worst in-game coach in the NCAA. His teams always choke. All he can do is recruit...he's just a snakeoil salesman the boosters, alumni and students love for reasons beyond my comprehension. Why they can't see the real truth is beyond me. The average Hallmark Cards creative director with no basketball experience could stand on the sidelines and win 35+ games with his teams every year."
