elgonzo4sox
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:08 PM) Rios has been hitting it hard by and large the past week or so. Heck, even more than that. His slugging percentage, ops, and average have been on the rise the past couple of weeks. He's also coming off a 3 hit game. I realize its sexy to hate on Rios, but unlike Dunn, he's actually coming around and also plays some good defense. Rios has adjusted his swing, and it's paying off. Does anyone know if Dunn has tried anything different?
Harry Chappas
the lillibridge at bat still ticks me off when I see the guy taking one for the team Rios has 20 RBI at the end of June I do not care what he has done the last few days he is making as much as Dunn and has produced just as little
fathom
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 07:10 PM) Having Lillibridge and Omar being your 2b actually gives you less OF depth because your backup CF becomes either Viciedo or Pierre. How so? You can still play Omar at 2nd and Lillibridge in CF if you need to rest Rios

chisoxt
QUOTE (aprec32 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) Just go to any website and look at this year........we have virtually no blow outs. We win a lot of close games and lose a bunch of close games. This is what I believe blew out our pen last year in August. We won a lot of close games in June and July, but in many games, we had to protect a slim lead so we had to go deep in the pen for many of those wins. Our offense last year did not make it easy on the pitching staff especially the bullpen. Same thing is happening this year.
chw42
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) Both are incredibly unacceptable to me. One's horrid, the other, especially this year, is actually very acceptable. I believe a .342 wOBA is something like 10% above league average this season. I'm not saying it's okay for Dunn to put up a .342 wOBA, but I'd definitely trade that for what he's done at home so far. The Sir
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 01:09 PM) Dunn 8th, sounds good to me. Juan ninth. Becks seventh. Balta are you serious or joking? He's got to be right on that. Dunn's stats have to be some of the worst in 20 years or more unless baseball is full of whiffers. That's no hyperbole. Maybe you were kidding. How about Mark Reynolds last year? Or Carlos Pena last year. They had power, but both were under the .200 line. And Reynolds was striking out at his normal lunatic rate. Buehrle>Wood
Phil Humber ERA watch at 2.78 now. It's going to be hard to leave him off the all-star team if he keeps this up. Too bad there are a lot of quality starters in the AL.

Does anyone know if Dunn has tried anything different? Only the pre-swing stuff. He's either wiggling the bat when he's getting read to swing or having it rest on his shoulder. That's the only alteration I've seen him make.

And I will always say that certainstats can be highly over-rated. A walk isnt' the same as a hit. It just isn't. And some of those stats pretty much rate a walk as a pure equivalent to a hit. In close games, a walk doesn't knock in the winning run. When you aer hitting .217, you are worthless, unless pretty much every one of your hit is a HR. It's going to be hard to leave him off the all-star team if he keeps this up. Too bad there are a lot of quality starters in the AL. I can't care about the All Star Game at all anymore. I don't see Humber going, sadly, and last time I checked, Mitch Moreland had more votes than Paulie. So did Teixeira and Cabrera, which is still hogwash. But the Moreland one is by far the most offensive. The AS Game can shove it.

He's either wiggling the bat when he's getting read to swing or having it rest on his shoulder. That's the only alteration I've seen him make. The big thing is he's staying on top of things. Keepg the elbow/hands higher. Guy has such quick hands. Unfortunately his swing is very hit or miss because there is so much pre-swing movement. Much like Beckham's swing. Rios has much quicker hands than Becks though.
