The Ginger Kid
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 07:31 PM) Well you guys got your wish, Rios seemingly benched. did he dog it on the bases or in the field?
Dick Allen
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 09:36 PM) I didnt see the first pop up, but the other plays I saw nothing different than what 75% or more baseball players do. Rios didnt slam the bat, he didnt go insane and not run to first, he just didnt run 100% down the line. Thats not something new in todays game. Its like saying youd bench Konerko because he didnt run out a play, its silly. I get that people are upset at Rios for not playing up to his contract, but hes still a better player than Pierre. I could give 100% every at bat, I still wouldnt deserve to be playing. Follow the crowd, I guess its accepted. I find dogging it repulsive. Even if 75 percent do it. Have some pride. Soxbadger
I didnt see Rios dog it (anymore than any other player does on a ball hit right to an outfielder), but supposedly on his first out he did (I wasnt watching yet). He dropped a play he makes 99/100 times, but it hit the heel and if you catch enough fly balls that happens 1 time. I dont get it really.
Dick Allen
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) did he dog it on the bases or in the field? It looked like both, but it could be his toe is bothering him. He popped up to first and only went about halfway down the line and he looked totally lost when he dropped a ball. It shouldn't happen twice in half a season when you are a $12 million a year major leaguer.

winninguglyin83
Farmer ripped him on the radio for not even pretending he was going to run on the popup. Thad Bosley
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 08:39 PM) IMO, both What did he "dog" on the field, Fathom? He got to that ball just fine, but it hit off the heel of his mitt, which is why he didn't catch it. Believe me, I was frustrated with that error just as much as anyone, but only because he DIDN'T dog it, he DID hustle to get to the ball in time, which means he should have caught it, but he didn't. But it wasn't because of lack of hustle. People seem to want to link his lack of hustle down the line earlier in the game with this particular play, but they are not comparable, at least IMHO. I thought he could have ran harder to go back on the ball, and normally that wouldn't have gotten him bench. I agree with DA that his toe is probably hurt.
