BigSqwert
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 09:57 AM) Randy Wells has been pretty awful this year. I would think we could put up 5 or 6 on him today. I hope people stop posting things like this whenever we face an awful pitcher since we seemingly never take advantage.

Harry Chappas
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 09:48 AM) Funny, I was actually thinking that's the best lineup they've had all year with Pena and Ramirez hitting so well right now. Ramirez is having a nice go he is so clutch when he is healthy which I think he rarely is.

macsandz
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 09:47 AM) That Cub lineup is so awful. How do they ever win any games? The Cubs have a bad looking lineup, but they have been hitting more than the Sox. As usual, if Jackson doesn't have his slider he's gonna get beat. I hate the Cubs as much as anybody here, but they may just take 2 of 3 this weekend...

Swingandalongonetoleft
I'll be at the game Sunday, hopefully they make it up to me for the awful time I had @ The Cell for the Monday game of the first series. Won't get a chance to watch Friday/Saturday until CSN replays it or mlb.tv makes it available. Looking at the OPSs of both teams, one would think the Cubs would have won 6 more games than the Sox, not vice versa. And this doesn't include Adam Dunn's sparkling .619. Reed Johnson has a .940 OPS in how many PAs? 106 ABs. I know its not an exact science and that would be like counting Lilli's .846 OPS in a similar amount of at-bats. I was just showing that their lineup has probably been better hitting than ours.

Perhaps. But the Cubs only lead the Sox in wOBA by a mere 4 points. They also have the same wRC+ (park adjusted wOBA basically). These teams are both very mediocre at hitting and scoring this year. But if it were any other year, both would suck hard.

No idea what the bolded means... but with similar offenses results-wise, it comes down to pitching (hugely in favor of the Sox) and defense (somewhat in favor of the Sox). So let's play like the better team and win at least two.
chw42
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 12:21 PM) No idea what the bolded means... but with similar offenses results-wise, it comes down to pitching (hugely in favor of the Sox) and defense (somewhat in favor of the Sox). So let's play like the better team and win at least two. Offense has been down this year. The Sox have a .314 wOBA. The Cubs have a .318 wOBA. In any previous year in the past two decades (except maybe last year and 1992), those would be in the bottom 33% of the league. But this year, since offense is down, it's right about average.
