Maybe it was strange, then. I don't feel like going back. Whatever. But I don't have a problem with them, either.

Well to move in with anybody you would have to know them fairly well. I guess it depends. You have people that are outwardly gay. Like they have np problem letting the world know. Like you don't even have to wonder. It's obvious. The clothes they wear, the way they walk and talk. Was anybody shocked when Ricky Martin or Lance Bass came out? I don't think I could be around that every day. If you're more reserved about it. And not throwing it in everybody's face 24/7, yeah, I could deal with that.

:lolhitting

Keep that s*** in the closet!

Just don't be all the way gay!

I do think it's gross. But I can accept if others choose that way. I could never accept my kin choosing that way. I'd feel responsible. Like I did something wrong. And like I said earlier, it would hurt me to know that I would never see a grandchild or that the family name dies (assuming I only had one kid) when he died.

There are such things as adoption and even surrogate mothers if you want the actual bloodline to continue. The kid can have whatever name the parents want to give him/her.

Just a question out of curiosity, say you are going away to college and you have a random roomate, would you consider it wrong for said incoming freshman to prefer to not live with a gay roomate?

Good question, imo. I'd have to say that yeah, it's wrong but that I understand where the discomfort would come from especially if you really haven't known any openly gay people.

No, it's not wrong. It's not wrong because you would have no problem with it. That would be that person's preference. No right or wrong.

The fears that J4L brings up are common ones, I don't want to act like I'm completely shocked he'd have them. I just can't believe he'd so openly state all of this information and in the same breath claim he has no problems with gay people.

J4L Homsexuality Rules

1 - You better know I'm not gay. (ie, I'm off the market dude)

2 - Just don't act gay in front of me, or 2b - Don't throw your gayness in my face. (ie, act straight)

3 - Don't force your porns on me.

4 - Don't have crazy loud gay sex all over me.

5 - I will not accept my gay child.

Your views of homosexuality are clearly based in reality and you also clearly have no problem with gay people!

That's it, we've hammered it home. I don't need to repeat myself any more. You clearly have a problem with gay people and have admitted as much, but refuse to admit it.

I have no problems with gay people as long as I can remain completely oblivious to the fact that they are, indeed, gay and they're not my child. Totally cool.

Yes, I wouldn't want to live with a Big Gay Al clone.

I'd rather not live with blacks, they're just more prone to crime thanks to their thug culture. No right or wrong!

I would not consider it wrong for them to initially think that, since society tends to promote such thoughts. That said, it is why many university housing departments force freshmen to stay in their assigned room for the first 4 weeks or so, so that they can actually experience it, learn from it, and hopefully find out a way to deal with it (or actually enjoy the experience). I would say that if a person has even a slightly open mind that most situations that I saw as an RA that the person who thought he couldn't live with a homosexual turned into a better and more accepting person because of the situation.

FWIW, without taking sides the point he was making with the porns wasn't that someone was going to intentionally swap a gay porn so that he had to watch it. It was clearly an analogy.

I like Steve, but he's the most hard-headed mofo on this site.

It's hilarious that I stated your views of homosexuality were probably born from South Park and a few pages later you type this.

When in doubt, let's pull the race card. Like I said, if your brother wasn't gay you wouldn't be nearly as anal about this.

You're blanketing an entire community into a specific South Park character which is already ridiculous. Most gays don't act that way, in fact many are just as "normal" as you and I in every day situations.

That was the best example of 'loud' gay folk I could come up with off the top of my head. And I know a lot of gays personally that act just that way

Yup, clearly he's the only one who thinks your stance is archaic.

But there are many of us here without a gay sibling that feel exactly the same way as he does.

But having a brother that is gay has given him more experiences and such to share from. It's not just that he may be biased, but that he actually has real life examples to back up his points, he can actually tell you the emotional impact it would have on a child if his/her parents would be embarassed by them being gay.

That wasn't my intent. I know not every gay is that way. But some are really loud about it. I couldn't be around that every day.

It's easy to analogize racism to homophobia, I'd say the same thing if you were white to make the same point. Bigots always have an excuse or rationalization for why their bigotry really isn't bigotry.

J4L, I'll just sum it up like this:

Personality =/= sexuality.

And having a brother that is gay also makes him oversensitive and hyperbolic.

I wouldn't want to live with an obnoxious person period.

But open homosexuality, not flamboyant obnoxiousness but simply being a person who happens to be gay, makes you uncomfortable.
