Pitchers:

Brian Bruney - C (nice ERA, but that WHIP is worrisome)

Mark Buehrle - A (not getting the run support he deserves, but he's the best he's been in a few years)

Jesse Crain - A- (most reliable pitcher out of the pen)

John Danks - D (I could understand his poor record at first due to zero run support, but he started showing signs of Todd Ritchie syndrome...yuck)

Gavin Floyd - D (he's a mental midget and the most overrated pitcher on the staff)

Philip Humber - A (he's the new ace, and considering his preseason expectations, this grade is easy)

Edwin Jackson - C+ (he's not bad, just forgettable...I wish he'd put that stuff to better use)

Will Ohman - D (only kept up that far by the fact that little was expected of him)

Jake Peavy - D- (he's not who he was four or five years ago with the Padres, and he's a bit of a China doll)

Tony Pena - F (I missed it...where did he go? Well, good riddance)

Chris Sale - C (I was gonna give him a D, but he must have done something right to get that ERA down to where it's at now)

Hector Santiago - N/A (two games don't count as far as I'm concerned)

Sergio Santos - B+ (when he sucks, he SUCKS...but he's been good too many times to go lower than this)

Matt Thornton - C- (he failed at his assigned task...our record is quite a bit better if not for his failed stint as closer)

Position Players:

Ramon Castro - B- (not bad power numbers for the backup catcher)

A.J. Pierzynski - A- (should have been an AllStar...quietly churning out a great season)

Gordon Beckham - D- (negligible impact; lacks consistency)

Paul Konerko - A (quite a career revival he's having in his mid 30s)

Brent Morel - C (gets higher ratings than Beckham because he didn't have the hype Beckham did, and his D is incredible; but he shouldn't be more than a backup)

Alexei Ramirez - A (slumping lately, but his numbers still qualify him as one of the best AL SS's...rapidly becoming a cornerstone of this franchise)

Mark Teahen - D- (gets my vote as the worst hitter on the team, and yes, I know who Adam Dunn and Alex Rios are)

Omar Vizquel - D (can he retire already so Hawk can just vote him into the HOF on the first ballot and shut up about it?)

Brent Lillibridge - B- (his hot hitting to start was a fluke, but the several memorable and clutch defensive plays boost his grade)

Juan Pierre - F (can't hit, can't field can't throw, can't run...the quintessential anti-five tool player)

Carlos Quentin - B (good power, mediocre average = All-Star)

Alex Rios - F (gets an extra bit of hatred for not even seeming to try anymore)

Adam Dunn - F (Jaime Navarro resurrected as a hitter)

Management:

Ozzie - F (poor pen management, idiotic lineups, dumb tactics, and a big mouth...FIRE HIM)

KW - B (needs to stand up to Ozzie already, but it's not his fault this team sucks on the field, he created a good product on paper which is his job)

Walker - F (anyone directly overseeing this offense gets an automatic F)

Cooper - A- (continues to do a great job of overseeing the pitching staff)

Overall: C- (we're still in it, but only because we play in this crappy division)

Despite that, space should have been made for Viciedo somehow long ago. It's no guarantee to assume that he would have produced, just like it was f'ing stupid to count on Sale/Morel coming into this season. At the same time, you never know till you know.

The grades for KW and Ozzie emphasize how badly change is needed at the top of thsi organization. Yes, I know, it's the players who perform but there were several warning flags over several of the higher profile acquisitions from the last few years. Ozzie's stubborness and lousy in game managing are a problem in the dugout.

Both Williams and Guillen have taken advantage of the goodwill from 2005 and have managed their positions recklessly since.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 02:48 PM)
Good stuff. You forgot Danks. Gordon should be higher than Morel. Lillibridge should be way higher

Lillibridge should not be higher. He made two great catches in one game and got a few hits early. He has been useless for at least a month and there was no excuse for that sleepwalking play in CF in Colorado. He should be gone next year. He peaked in April/May.

Quentin: B (still waiting for another 2008)

Rios: D- (doesn't seem to care)

Team game, I give the white sox a D+/C-

They pulled themselves out of the tailspin and despite some gaping holes in the lineup, they clawed their way back to .500 before falling back again.

Without a boost to the lineup and bullpen (Viciedo and Reed get my votes) and a semblance of normality from Dunn, I fear we're just going to watch them swim upstream for the rest of the year. I have very serious concerns about Humber's ability to repeat his performance in the 2nd half, and that alone could be devastating, given that Buehrle is the only other consistent starter.

Enjoy the break.

Just who posted here..

hi8is - C- (posting more, which I like, but getting married severely brings the grade down from a B-)

fathom- B (not posting as much as in years past, though some of that is because of the baby, but still one of my personal favorite posters)

J4L- A- (incredible year as far as getting into certain ST poster's skin, but with actual facts to back them up as well as post count. Another favorite poster of mine. Should be at the top of the soxtalk poster of year awards for 2011)

The Ginger Kid- C (very underrated poster. Doesn't stand out like the others here, but doesn't kill the I.Q. of the site like others do either)

FlySox87- N/A (still a rookie)

Swingandalongonetoleft- C- (only post when necessarily, which is good. Still another down year from what his potential should truly be for ST.)

jeffro2525- N/A (don't know enough about this poster to give a grade)

South Side Fireworks Man- C- (same reason as Swingandalongonetoleft)

chisoxt- C (same as Swingandalongonetoleft and South Side Fireworks Man, though IMO, he has far better potential with his post, so I gave him a touch higher grade)

oldsox- N/A (same as jeffro2525)

qwerty- D (absolutely a pathetic year for one of ST's best posters. Went from crushing every poster with ridiculously witty post, to absolutely crushing posters with ridiculously witty pics. Good stuff, but leave that for the ill-informed. He will get the Derek Jeter treatment with the ST awards though, as well as Kalapse)

OilCan- B- (though has a low post count, his post actually stand out alot with solid reasoning. Pretty good year for him. Might be a Phil Humber fluke, but this is the "what have you done for me lately" world)

GreenSox- N/A (" ")

pittshoganerkoff- B- (actually the same reasoning as OilCan)

greg775- C (I was actually back and forth with Greg's grade, so I put him in the middle. Not the optimistic senile he's been in year's past, and now has alot of pessimistic post... but are senile. He pisses off alot of posters for alot of reasons to name, but he mush be doing something right and a poster or two have admitted he was their favorite. Is also a regular here, so that helps balance it all out. All in all, one of those posters who you either hate him or love him)

chw42- A- (just exploded into the scene this year. Though not a favorite poster of mine [yet] I'll admit, but I love his saber-love post, and is very knowledgeable here. Has future mod potential. Another guy who could be a dark horse for the ST poster of the year, and yes.. I hate those ST awards as you know)

Baron- N/A (still a rookie)

winninguglyin83- C (great poster on ST for many years, but just has you wanting more in posts. One of those toolsy posters who should be better than what he is, but is solid all around so he gets the solid grade)

BigEdWalsh- B- (the old man just keeps on trucking. Has had a much better year than in years past, hence the higher grade)

elrockinMT- C (has actually had a very good year in posting, but isn't standing out as much in those post whether that is good or bad. Fits more in the greg mode for me, but not with the same ability to agitate, but more consistent in pessimism over the years, not a flip-flopper)

The other posters haven't posted yet so there you go.
