oldsox
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 09:04 AM) What are they gonna do about it? If he wants to retire, he can retire. Sure, he CAN retire. But if he retires with $42 MM left on a guaranteed contract, the MLPA would be all over Dunn like white on rice, saying that he owes it to other to take the money, yadda, yadda. The MLBPA is there to protect the player, if he is being forced to retire than they will have something to say (and really no team would be able to do that at this stage in the contract). If he is the one who wants to retire than there is nothing they can do to stop him, that's part of his rights as a player.

If the Sox benched him right now nad played him once a week until he retired, I don't think that anyone would question the Sox's move unless Dunn started hitting in those games when he got a chance. ILMOU
This could be a huge blessing from an albatross-removal standpoint.
chisoxfan09
This is going to be a massive issue for the Sox until the season plays itself out. I read a few posts back that Dunn could possibly have developed vision problems. Is that just a rumor or is there some possible truth to it? Balta1701
The last thing on Adam Dunn's mind is quitting. That's why the White Sox slugger became increasingly irritated Friday because he believes a Yahoo! Sports embellished a report about his thoughts on quitting if baseball no longer was fun for him. "Yeah, no chance," Dunn said. "I guess you can write it any way you want. You don't care what I might have told you." Dunn's eyes drifted off as he leaned back in his chair in astonishment. "That's unbelievable," Dunn continued. "That's why you don't talk to those kind of people. Not those kind of people. Not like y'all. Like those kind of people you never even seen before." Dunn was miffed over the structure of the story, particularly because he says he gave no indication he was thinking of quitting soon. "I know exactly what it was, and that's what I told him," Dunn said. "He (asked), 'How can you keep this?' I said, 'Listen, I still love playing baseball. If I didn't like it, I'd go home.' But I actually like it. " 'Yeah, if I don't like it, I'll go home. I'm not going to sit here and be miserable. (But) it's not happening.' greg775
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 06:30 PM) Link That's what happens when articles are overwritten. The baseball season is so long the reporters don't generally get enough good stuff in a pre-game article to write an overwritten piece like that one was. Stupid. Can u imagine if Dunn goes 2-5 again tonight? There might be some excitement.

I thought he squared that ball up very well. Reminded me of one Carlos Pena hit back around May 1. I have no idea how he didn't hit it out. Special K
I honestly think Dunn may need glasses or some sort of vision correction. Or he needs his appendix back
WHITESOXRANDY
Maybe the Sox could trade Dunn to Oakland for Fautino De Los Santos, Gio Gonzalez and Ryan Sweeney.
justBLAZE
Cowley tweets today that Dunn might be having 'too much fun' outside of the game. And as far as the whole Dunn not having fun story ... according to one Sox official, having too much fun might be his real problem. Memo to Dunn: shadow Paul Konerko and do everything he does during the season and in the offseason. You'll be fine. Being the fun-lovin guy that likes to have a few cocktails after games works when you're hitting 30-40 homers a year .... .... when you're not, grab a few clubhouse brews and just chill in the room. Perception is everything. #TheBrianAndersonRule

fathom
Dunn has a reputation for being one of the nicest guys in baseball. If the veterans in the locker room have an issue with him (like they did Swisher, Cabrera, etc), then it's time those guys leave.

Maybe, when you are in your 30's now that starts to take its toll. And, if you've seen him play you have to wonder what aspects of baseball has he been working on all these years? It looks like about all he's been working on is havin a few beers and going out there and swinging hard.

No, but I don't see why he can't bat sixth or seventh. He's doing Paulie no favors hitting fourth, that's for sure.
Balta1701
QUOTE (Wedge @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 11:22 PM) Have we reached the point where we'd be better off having the pitchers hit for Adam Dunn? He has swung the bat a lot better the last 2 games. I think he's still either having a conditioning issue or he's still a bit tentative on the swing, but he's hit 3 fly balls that "2010 Adam Dunn" might have hit out. At least 2 of those would have been out for 2010 Adam Dunn. Also missed a double by 2 inches.
