7/19 GT: Sox @ Royals, 7:10pm

What are you guys smokin'? That's a terrible lineup. Rios batting 5th?! Scary. Lillibridge hasn't been hitting, Morel hasn't exactly been tearin' it up (when he does play). Flowers is Flowers. I hope to hell they hit, but that lineup is not going to put the fear into anyone.

Greg, Peavy vs Duffy is not a huge Sox advantage on paper. Peavy's ERA as a starter this year is 5.68

I think for many there is the idea of Jake Peavy - cy young winner, bulldog, K machine -- and the reality of Jake Peavy (injury riddled 5.68 ERA back-end rotation pitcher)

I am be choosing Flowers as my pick to click. I hope he plays well enough that Ozzie never plays Aj again.

Yeah, screw AJ! He's just a catcher who's hitting .290! I hate him so much.

UGH

Well, technically, if Flowers played well enough that AJ never played again, that would mean Flowers was putting up like an 1.100 OPS.

I hope Flowers plays that well too.

Dunn and Rios combined 4 for 32 since the break -- and the Sox are 3-1.

Imagine ...

And ... he's got 124 Ks with a .158 batting average.

We need to start a pool on picking the date when his strikeout total overtakes his batting average.

I'm going with Aug. 5 at Minnesota.

It's hard to hit .158. This is like a bad dream.

Well Ozzie said he will start to sit Dunn if he continues struggling. Everytime Dunn goes to the plate I think of the Major League announcer saying" Dunn is 0 for his last.... whatever" lol

Rios hitting 5th isn't a good thing at all, but for some reason I'm excited about baseball tonight. Had a good day at work, my son looked great on the ice (hockey) today, I just ate some b****ing spaghetti and the fridge is loaded with beer.

I told a friend yesterday I could bat .065 in the bigs. Haven't swung a bat in years. Am I on crack? I used to be a pretty good contact hitter back in the day...

I do get your point, but I would say no you couldn't hit .065 in the bigs (unless of course you ARE the man, John Cangelosi himself). I respect the game too much to think anyone 'off the street' could do it even at that hilariously bad clip.

I had a pretty good baseball career and was asked to walk-on for my college team, but honestly knowing what I know about the sport...if I were given 4 at bats for 162 games against big league pitching I probably wouldn't even foul one off until September.

Probably on crack. But as you can imagine, the conversation came up when we were watching the game and he saw Dunn's BA. (He doesn't follow the Sox, so he didn't have a clue to how bad things really are)

Enuff said - I didn't play past 18 years old and that was 20 years ago! :-)

We're virtually in the same boat. I was done by 19...then lots of softball, which completely screwed me up worse for any chance at hitting actual live baseballs again. I loved playing softball in the field, but despised hitting. Not sure why that is.

7 for 79 with 40 ks.

Its hard to believe anyone could be that bad. Its harder to believe a team would actually keep someone in the line up AND bat them 3rd or 4th while that is going on.

Well, I thought I could do it, too. I was always telling them I could get a hit in one of the games....and NO WAY could I get a hit in the major leagues.

When I worked for the Augusta GreenJackets, Bruce Tanner (former Sox pitcher, Chuck's son) let me take BP one day.

He kept sawing me off inside and I was flipping a bunch of balls to 2B and Crede pop-ups to RF. I'm sure he was probably throwing only 70-80 MPH. Then I had the bright idea of hitting with the fungo bat and I swung so hard that it flew out of my hands way into the stands down the 3B/LF line and the fungo bat shattered.

That was the end of my taking BP with the team, lol. Those fungo bats are expensive, and there's not really any good reason for one to break, so I appreciated that they covered for me with the Pirates and got a new one sent and I didn't have to pay for it.

They also timed my "fastball" and it was 78-80 mph, haha. The scout said he did like my "long arm action" and release.

80 MPH not too shabby! Interesting, all I've done is taken some BP in the cage where they serve up some serious heaters, but that can't be anything like the real thing in the bigs, not even close. No way is .065 possible for a layman.

our opponents run on aj at will. make him a dh. he can replace the Left handed,.150 hitting, dh we are currently playing everyday.

No 80 mph isn't bad at all for a layman.

Best friend has a 15 year old kid hitting close to 90 mph on the gun...trouble with him is his grades. Funny thing is his older brother is brilliant, went to Columbia on a full wrestling scholarship.

AJ also brlliantly handles the staff. he's not good at throwing out runners, but he's really good at all the other stuff. We can win with AJ....
